I was in a chatroom recently and somebody said Led Zeppelin were the best band ever while others agreed, so I thought I'd put them up against a band barely in the big 5 top prog bands (not that I agree with that system either) and find out. I chose Jethro Tull because I believe King Crimson, PinK Floyd, Yes or Genesis would have won too easily especially on this progressive website Tongue

JT, easy

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

They're chalk and cheese.

Tull were a great blues/folk/hard rock prog band, and Zeppelin were a great hard rock band with some prog tendencies.

Some days I would love to listen to Aqualung or Heavy Horses, but on other days my choice would be Led Zep 3 or Physical Graffiti.

Impossible to make a rational choice.

Tull by a bit. The remix series is the best ever released
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

I really enjoy both, but Jethro Tull probably has a little bit more for me personally. I'd choose both if it was an option, but i'll go with Tull, their discography has such great replay value.

if there's one thing I like its a chalk and cheese poll normally it makes for excellent discussion and keeps it from being boring, I knew when I created this poll both these bands are worlds apart. Wink

True. But when I was lecturing, I used chalk to write notes on the board (well, for a long time). Cheese would not work.

But when I went to the canteen for lunch, I sure as hell didn't want a chalk sandwich!

hard vote...  the first four Tull albums absolutely rule.. and bitch slap the collective Zep output..

problem is...  JT became JD (aka Ian's Ego and his collection of cronies) and didn't stop after Aqualung...

so giving it to Zep.. for having the good sense to know when to hang it up....

so it's LZ 1969-1979 vs JT 1968-1979, right?
still depends on the album,
album polls are more interesting than just bands poll.

it's also a bit apples and oranges...

I think the clear choice is JT.

I don't mind Zepp (used to love them a lot more) but i've always been a bigger JT fan.
I did read once that Jimmy Page called them, "Jethro Dull" and it's like...*slow clap* Such an original insult mate lol.

Led Zep's highs are off the scale high while Tull were a very consistent prog band that barely put a foot wrong but are pretty dull compared to Zep ( Page was correct!) . I feel like I should vote for Tull so Zep it is.

I feel both can pack a good punch, in term of eclectisisme and power. With an unshy bravery snd bravado. Both are kings in charisma and pathos. With strong deliverers of vocals whom bouth have gone the court-bard school of delivery. Both have solid drummers, guitarists of high class. JPJ delibers highly in both bass and keyboard department.
