I made a poll recently for Song For America and Leftoverture and I feel a little guilty I left these classics of the poll so I thought I'd amend that and make a whole new poll ....Yes another Kansas poll but they are due to release a new album soon and I`m pretty excited about it. The winner of this poll is going up against Leftoverture (which was the winner I declare judging by how many votes it got) in my next Kansas poll so choose carefully  Tongue

I like all three but the debut is my favourite by a smidgeon, mainly for DOMN suite.

Death of Mother Nature Suite has some amazing insight in the errors of mans ways its a profound song with great meaning ahead of its time, and I also love 'Apercu' and 'journey from mariabronn' all killer tracks and I have a soft spot for 'lonely wind' I see the beauty in it. not to mention 'can I tell you' and 'belexes' also very good. Tongue I think the first Kansas album will be a strong contender. But Masque has what I consider the best Kansas song of all time "The Pinnacle" not to mention icarus 'born on wings of steel' also a killer track and some other very good tracks as well. We all know 'dust in the wind' came from 'point of know return' the stand out song on that album I think is 'Closet Chronicles' Point Of Know Return is made up of some very strong material ... this will be a close poll I suspect, closer than Song For America verses Leftoverture I hope (incase you are wondering I voted Song For America) I was a little shocked it was such a leftoverture landslide meaning leftoverture won so easily Wink .. The reason I`m doing these Kansas polls is because Kansas are soon to release their new album and as I said I can't wait ! I`m really excited about it because I thought their last studio effort was close to brilliant, I still listen to it and get right into it, I get the feeling the absence of presence will be a strong album and really put Kansas back on the progressive map, just the snippets i've heard on youtube I really like, the signs are looking good . Big smile

I haven't listened to their debut or Masque in a really long time. Maybe I need to change that and get back to this.

Yes please do Cristi that would be appreciated as I really want people to be sure in their hearts when they vote because whatever wins this poll goes up against Leftoverture, that will be a serious challenge. Tongue

Kansas is one of those bands I quite enjoy listening to for about 20 mins, but then I always think "I could be listening to something better rather than this".
All their first five albums are high 3* or low 4* for me, but Point of Know Return is the best.
But I have a live cassette somewhere (I think) which is very good.

Kansas's debut might by my favorite by them. Apercu is such a great track especially, even the "non prog" tracks got some really killer musicianship and scratch the same itch for me . I could justify voting for POKR as well though, Masque is pretty strong.

That's interesting because whenever I`m listening to something else I`m thinking I could be listening to the greatest band I've ever heard and that's Kansas. See how we all perceive art and music from a different perspective ... nobody is right or wrong its like food what I like the taste of you may not and visa versa there is no right or wrong answer its all about how the mind interprets things. Some days I play every Kansas album on my computer and listen to it in bed every single album one after another including live albums. I can go for hours and hours without feeling the desire to listen to something else because one thing Kansas has most other bands don't is a wide range of diversity, they aren't ever creatively starved of ideas. Even there rated worst album Drastic Measures has some great moments the middle section of Mainstream I really dig and the Kerry Livgren written songs are all great on Kansas worse rated album 'Drastic Measures'. Tongue

This is tough. Kansas/Masque have "Journey from Mariabronn" and "The Pinnacle" and a bunch of other great songs. But PoKR has "Closet Chronicles," "Hopelessly Human" and a bunch of other great songs.

I guess I have to vote for all three.

How long, to the point of no return?!
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

I love the three of them. The Debut album shows a band with great potencial, and it starts growing from there. Masque shows them maturing a bit, and looking for some direction and identity. Point of no Return sees the band fully matured, and has a very good songwriting ability and great insturmentation. Hard to choose indeed.
