Although it didn't make my list , I've always liked TB3 which really had very little with the original album other than marketing. That and Tres Lunas are underrated I feel although they are just too close to the 'Ibiza scene' for comfort as far as prog fans are concerned!

it's probably my fave post 1990 Oldfield album, and I agree it barely references the original.  But I do like World music.  I actually quite like Light and Shade as well

Let's see if I can get it right.
1. Ommadawn.
2. Tubular Bells.
3. Hergest Ridge.
4. Incantations.
5. Return to Ommadawn.
6. Songs from Distant Earth.
7. I'm not sure, it might be one that I haven't heard yet, but right now I think I should go with Tubular Bells 3.

Although each Tubular Bells album was uniquely different in its own special way, in my opinion anyway. Smile

Really? I mean, it's the original Tubular Bells, then the orchestral Tubular Bells, which I understand should be just about the same one but with orchestra (and without Mike if I remember correctly, because he wasn't up to playing live yet by then and the record company had to do this anyway), then some live versions of Tubular Bells with Mike Oldfield himself, then Tubular Bells 2 which very closely follows the same path of the original, playing equivalents of every piece on the original but (for me) mostly of lesser quality (like they were done so for the sake of copying his original), then Tubular Bells 2003, which is the very original Tubular Bells re-recorded (and that's actually the one I have, not the original one). And then there's Tubular Bells 3, which is indeed a new work in it's own right for a change, and has some really beautiful moments indeed.

speaking of TB 3, love this number, so atypical for Oldfield

Indeed that's a beautiful one. Though my favourite from that album is the last one. Such a powerful use of the Tubular Bells.

ballsy decision to avoid the first four albums

I would expect Amarok to be doing a bit better in the poll , even Oldfield thinks it's his best album!

It's not that I meant to leave any good ones out, it's more I'm still behind on his discography. It looks like Ommadawn might have to be my next listen.
