Okay, will do. I have a high frequency of Mike Oldfield albums to listen to first though. Wink

I much prefer Eloy to Nektar, and Colours is a wonderful album

It came down to a toss-up between Permanent Waves and PG (sorry Kate). I went for PG in the end.

Kate Bush would be doing really well in these 1980's polls if there weren't so many other artists to choose from. Smile

Can't say I'm a huge Rush fan but chose Waves...always liked that one ...not sure why.   ;)
Some other gems on that list....Asia Minor, Beefheart, Bush, Gabriel, etc.

My personal list would be

Eskaton - 4 Visions
Present - Triskaidekaphobie
Zamla Mammaz Manna - Familjesprickor
Art Zoyd - Generation Sans Futur

I don't know Present but the other three are awesome. Not quite Never For Ever-like awesome, but still... Tongue
PS: Good to see some love for Sky!
Agree om those 4, especially for Art Zoyd. In their absence, I give Jon Anderson the first vote. Not a masterpiece, but his best after Olias. It doesn't deserve a 0.
Curiosity killed a cat, Schroedinger only half.

Had to be Doc at the Radar Station - just one of my favourite albums - though if I were limiting it more strictly to prog, I'd probably have gone with the crowd on Moving Pictures.

I must say 1980 is a much stronger field than 81, 82 or 83.

True. It was the year of Duke, Drama, Permanent Waves, Zenyatta Mondatta, Making Movies, Tusk, Melt... I could go on. All begun perfectly with Another Brick in the Wall, first number one of the year.

Peter Gabriel - 3: Melt
No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I'd choose Tangerine Dream, but only because I haven't heard any albums by Eloy. Smile

Really...well, you're in for a ride. They're probably the best band you've never checked out! I second the recommendation for Colours.

Thanks for the recommendation. There are so many great bands and albums out there still waiting for me to check out for the first time. I'd never even heard of Nektar or Eloy before I first went online in 2010. Smile

Tangerine Dream's symph/electronic crossover masterpiece but there are a lot of great albums here

So many great choices here.   What creative and imaginative song writing! I feel like a kid in a candy store. Wish we had these kinds of choices in 2020. Four of my favorite albums are listed.

I might struggle to fill 25 slots in any single year from 1990 onwards. Smile

I don't know about that. There's always Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Dream Theatre, the Mars Volta, Thank You Scientist, Steven Wilson, Spock's Beard, Big Big Train, etc. There have been quite a lot of prog bands buzzing about since 1990, as I discovered in my Modern prog thread a while ago.

The only problem is, the only two artists I'm familiar with out of those you mentioned are Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree. Smile
