This genre-defining Progressive metal quartette hailed from Curitiba, Brazil. Okyr was born in 2017 and "Premorbid Intelligence", released on August 25, 2020, is their first album.
Okyr's guitarist Tiago Alain and the bassist Jean Elias start composing some themes and riffs while they were the members of a Dream Theater cover band and one can hear clearly the beneficial influence off the Creators of Progressive metal genre. Indeed, a very exciting, pleasant and bracing metal music is on their debut.

two things I disagree in this presentation and since I listened a bit on bandcamp, I'll just say it.

"genre defining"? it's rather predictable, done before a hundred times.

Dream Theater created progressive metal?! My eyes hurt I rolled them at this. Big smile

I guess it's not easy to create something strictly within the genre framework and some people always will say "it's rather predictable". However, the true genre-achievement cannot be denied in this case, as Okyr's debut feature some great moments indeed.

Well I know that even before "When Dream and Day Unite" (1989) and "Images and Words" (1992), there were several bands' efforts to combine heavy rock and the idiom of progressive music, for example "Stargazer" the song (1976) by Rainbow is particularly great, but no one band before Dream Theater have merged NWOBHM and progressive rock so gutsy and broadly that have created hundreds of followers i.e. genre.

I don't see how this is genre defining or genre-achievement when this sound has been done hundred times before. Are they talented? Yes. Genre defining? I say no.

As for DT creating progressive metal, they were influenced by bands like Fates Warning, Quensryche, Crimson Glory, obviously Rush etc.
I love the Moore era of DT, those are my favorite DT albums, but they did not create progressive metal.

Isn't another web-presence, apart from a web-footprint that they have created by themselves, an important thing regarding the new bands? I've posted those links just like an addition to my suggestion. I'm not rushing the team.

the prog metal team is the busiest, twenty something bands to look at.
some evaluations go faster, some don't.
