Hey everyone, I'm back for the 1996 poll. I'm going to try to get through the end of the decade this week, and then I'm gonna take a little bit of a breather as college is starting up again. 1996 is yet another solid year for prog, with a fair number of albums from outside the English-speaking progsphere (Abraxas and Quidam from Poland, Amorphis from Finland, Angra from Brazil, Art Zoyd from France, Bondage Fruit from Japan, D.F.A. from Italy, Edge of Sanity, Opeth, Pan.Thy.Monium, and Therion from Sweden, and Miriodor from Quebec).

I will be voting for Cardiacs' masterpiece Sing to God.

Another good year for Prog. The mid to late 90's is a bit of a renaissance for prog music in general. In this instance I'll give it to Pendragon but could give it to another 4 or 5.

I thought I would know more albums from this year but even when I looked up the PA Top 100 for this year there were very few I knew.(97 is a bit different)

here are my faves for the year - none are present on the list, except Miriodor.
Sooooo, I guess it'll have to be Miriodor with Tool in second tied with the Cardiacs

Zoyd over Miriodor.

None from this list.
Hackett's "Genesis Revisited" spend a lot of time on the turntable in '96.

PS - good luck, and stay safe, in college!

FYI, that Hands album was recorded in the late 70's.

I might vote for signify but I'm not sure yet.

Many great albums in this list, so it's hard to choose. I finally voted for Camel, "Harbour of Tears" is a great albums, quite emotional and very well instrumented and orchestrated.

Thanks for the heads up—I've replaced it with The Flower Kings' Retropolis.

So many great albums! (and a few you missed: LANDBERK Indian Summer, ULVER Kveldssanger, AFTER CRYING De Profundis)

Went with fairly recent discovery ANGRA Holy Land--my highest rated album of 1996.

Pendragon, with the best album of their career.

Maybe one of the best Neo albums period.

I said this would be easy, and it is.
Good though Harbour of Tears is, The Masquerade Overture is a monumental prog masterpiece and one of my favourite albums.

Since Art Zoyd's Faust is included (I treat it as a 1995 album) that gets my vote. Sing to God is another favourite album of mine, as is Miriodor's Jongleries Élastiques. Miriodor was the first "modern" prog band that I got into, after having had numerous disappointments. U Totem was the second one I both heard and got into.

Mentioned this before, but a whole a Capella cover album was made of Sing to God called Singin' To God (the group also did a The Residents one).

Mentioning this track off Singin' to God cause I think Dirty Boy should be known to many here even if they haven't heard all of Sing to God:

I think it's an awesome cover album, or at least I think it's awesome that it exists cause it gets kind of too samey-sounding, but I may be alone in that here.
