Yes, I would vote for 1973 in preference to 1972. Thumbs Up
Exact same here! I was certain '73 would win my 1970s poll. Tongue

What are your great albums of 2013 and 2017?

I am telling you immediately, fellow forum user. :)
From 2017, I loved a lot 'From Silence to Somewhere', 'In Contact', 'Malina', 'The Slow Rust of Forgotten Machinery', 'In the Passing Light of Day', 'The Bride Said No'.

And from 2013 (a personal favorite), of course, 'The Raven', 'The Mountain', 'Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep', 'Desolation Rose', 'English Electric Pt.2', 'Coal', 'Dimensionaut', 'Le Sacre du Travail', 'Now What?!', 'Kveikur', and Bowie's 'The Next Day'.

I found 2019 quite decent as well and not too far from these two I just mentioned.

2009. One of the best years for music, prog or otherwise.

Big Big Train - The Underfall Yard
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Maudlin of the Well - Part the Second
Muse - The Resistance
RISHLOO - Feathergun
Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

If it wasn't 1972 and instead was 1973, 1973 would have beaten all the other years.

Despite 2 people saying they'd vote for 1980...it only has 1 vote! I demand a recount!

2019 for me, by the way😎

He or she voted by mail, so... patience... ;)

I'm following Nogbad: I would vote for 1972, but 1980 deserves some more moral support.

Of the 'best year of the decade' series of polls, 2009 was the only year I voted for, for which I provided the following albums as examples:

1. Maudlin Of The Well - Part The Second :

2. Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition :

3. Mastodon - Crack The Skye :

4. Toe - For Long Tomorrow :

5. Astra - The Weirding :

1972 has enough votes already, so I'll vote for 2009 instead.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Given the choices, I am not sure how anyone could pick anything but 1972, given the amount of important albums from nearly every PA prog genre:

Grave New World - Strawbs

Thick as a Brick – Jethro Tull

Argus – Wishbone Ash

Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra

Demons and Wizards – Uriah Heep

Obscured by Clouds – Pink Floyd

666 – Aphrodite’s Child

Trilogy – ELP

Close to the Edge – Yes

Foxtrot - Genesis

Made in England – Atomic Rooster

Seventh Sojourn – The Moody Blues

Octopus – Gentle Giant

The Grand Wazoo – Frank Zappa

Made in Japan - Deep Purple

Banco del Mutuo Soccorso – Banco del Mutuo Soccorso

Faust So Far – Faust

Focus 3 – Focus

Last Autumn's Dream – Jade Warrior

Neu! – Neu!

Uomo di pezza – Le Orme

...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

Elementary, my dear Paul! I believed people would vote for 1980 ALSO because of Melt, Permanent Waves, Drama ( which you yourself like), Scary Monsters (featuring the genius none other than Robert Fripp), and perhaps most importantly the birth of the neo prog wave. A lot of stuff, therefore - and they're just my favourites.
