Don't have a solid favorite...like Canterbury, Eclectic , and Symphonic equally...

King Crimson, VDGG and Gentle Giant = Eclectic, so it get's my solitary vote.

Yeah, thought the same and should actually vote for it, because all my other candidates (post rock, eclectic, Kraut, maybe electronic) already have one (just one!) vote each. The RIO crowd still has to turn up but OK, I give it a start. Edit: Argh, my vision is biased, so I gave Rio vote number 4 and post/math is still without... Sorry Tortoise, Sigur Ros, Battles, Mogwai, GSYBE. Edited by Lewian - September 30 2020 at 10:03 |

It's weird to me that a few people voted for neo over symphonic prog. IQ, Arena, Pallas and Pendragon over Yes, Genesis, Camel, etc. Really?

it depends, I'd easily vote for Marillion up against some 70s prog.

I'm guessing that the vast majority of those who voted for Neo-Prog in preference to Symphonic Prog didn't live through the classic 1970's era of prog..... And You & I did.

a lot of people here have not lived through the classic years of prog, but that does not mean they (myself included here) cannot appreciate the music from that time. I don't think it's what AFKC meant. I believe he is surprised to see neo-prog getting votes over symph-prog, a genre that influenced neo-prog.

Actually, it wasn't such a "vast majority", because only three people have voted for Neo-Prog so far.

"Eclectic" prog - prog combining many elements of music. Gentle Giant's in eclectic prog too.

I know - Genesis sound like a terrible Marillion tribute band. Neo is much better than symphonic.

it's possible neo-prog is their favorite subgenre. Marillion is one of my favorite bands. Should I be ashamed now? It says I've already voted here. Probably progressive metal.

When King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, The Tangent, Gentle Giant, Beardfish, Hackett, and UK are all labeled Eclectic Prog, then this is the one I must go with. Breathing down this sub-genre's neck I must have Symphonic Prog, Crossover, Canterbury Scene, Heavy Prog and Extreme/Tech Prog Metal! *I must also say, there is no sub-genre of prog that I actually dislike, so no answer of mine would be wrong... well, maybe Indo-Prog because I have no idea what this is*

This is my only exposure to that sub-genre: Mixtus Orbis - Andre Fertier's Clivage Although it has an obvious subcontinental sound, it is not quite what I was expecting from the sub-genre. Edited by I prophesy disaster - October 24 2020 at 10:24 |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

A while back, I created a favourite sub-genre poll. However, I deliberately omitted the Eclectic Prog sub-genre because I felt that this does not represent a type of music. |

^ I thought Indo prog was progressive indie rock.
If "their" is me, you're right. Love neo.
Have I offended you by liking neo prog? Well, if you will say neo is like a cover band of symphonic prog, you will get a nasty reply from me...
