   Founded in 2002, Zatokrev are a Swiss atmospheric sludge metal band, based in Basel. The group's most recent lineup, which has undergone a number of changes, consists of founding guitarist/vocalist Frederyk Rotter (formerly of C R O W N and Schammasch), guitarist Steffen Kunkel, bassist/vocalist Lucas Löw and drummer David Burger. Zatokrev's style is an abrasive, repetitive and experimental take on sludge and doom metal, becoming more avant-garde and progressive across four LPs and two splits.
Zatrokev's 2003 demo garnered critical attention, and it was rereleased a year later as their eponymous debut album. Bury the Ashes, the band's more ambitious sophomore record, followed via Czar of Crickets Productions in 2006. After a 2007 split with fellow Swiss sludge ensemble Vancouver, Zatokrev went on hold due to lineup departures and tribulations in Rotter's personal life. In early 2012, Zatokrev were signed to Candlelight Records, through which they released their third full-length, The Bat, the Wheel and a Long Road to Nowhere, later that year. Silk Spiders Underwater... followed in 2015, and Zatokrev issued the Bigod split with fellow post-metal group Minsk three years later, once again through Czar of Crickets.
Zatokrev will appeal to followers of Neurosis, Isis and Godflesh such as Cult of Luna, Minsk, Dirge, A Storm of Light, C R O W N and Overmars.
