Kind of weak surprisingly. Although Selling England by the Pound reaches the greatest heights, the two albums I enjoy from beginning to end are Ashes are Burning and Camel. The younger Saperlipopette! would not be happy if he knew his older self would vote for Renaissance over Genesis, yet here we are.

my faves are (unranked):

Brain Salad Surgery
Selling England by the Pound
Bedside Manners Are Extra
The Six Wives of Henry VIII
quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

The tough choice here is between ELP and Genesis - I went with the latter purely because of 'first love' - a magical album I first heard when I was 12.  Very marginal...

Have you seen the mystic queen...
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Such a perfect writeup! Except that Genesis were never bigger than Camel and Renaissance for me.

Same here. I'd never even listened to a Genesis album before going online in 2010, but I bought nearly every album by Camel and Renaissance in the 1970's. Embarrassed

Several of my favorites here - ELP, Genesis, Wakeman, Camel, Renaissance, yet my vote went for the controversial Tales From Topographic Oceans. It is one of the few albums proggers criticize for the pieces being too long (thanks to RW), but I like the expansiveness of it all. And I have read some of the shastras, which inspired it.

I like Tales from Topographic Oceans too, even though I haven't yet got around to buying the album, mainly because you never see YES albums at charity shops or car boot sales. The way Rick Wakeman describes TFTO though, it's more like Tales from Soporific Oceans. Smile
