I would normally vote for Season's End, but I guess it'll run away with most votes anyway. So, I'll give some love to IQ's Are You Sitting Comfortably? I've always liked that album (whether it's prog or not) and some tracks (I'm thinking of Nostalgia/Falling Apart... and Wurensh) announce where they will be heading next, when PN reintegrates the band.

Marillion. The squash casserole handed me some tax forms and a handbook about colonoscopies.

1989 was all about Cardiacs and their wonderful 'On Land and at Sea' album.

IQ by not much over Marillion. Both have nice atmosphere, texture and melody in abundance. Peter Collins had a hand in the IQ album I believe which helped.

IQ just over Marillion too, for similar reasons to those explained for 1987, with Nomzamo v Clutching At Straws.
Both Menel fronted IQ albums are very pleasing to the ear, although not very "neo-prog", for what it's worth.

Bang on the money again Starjet! AYSC has no weak tracks whereas Seasons’ End flags late on…until The Space….

Also love Eat Me In St. Louis. 1989 was a great year for prog, rock, metal, funk rock….

Seasons End - Marillion's best album.
Are You Sitting Comfortably? is also a good album.

Me too, but It Bites wins it for me here with one final live bite of the cherry in Japan before taking a very long break on the tropical island of Hiatus. Tongue
