2016 to 2019, one track per album.
I did a similar topic not too long ago for the the 2020s so far, but in that I asked for tracks to not be over, or not much over, ten minutes in duration. This time there are no time limits. List as many or as few as you like, but the idea is to just highlight one track off albums you have listened to from the 2016 through 2019 years. Here are some of the tracks that stood out early on for me off some of the albums I have listened to from that period. I took the "genre" descriptions from the rateyourmusic album pages to give people some idea of the music of which they are not familiar.

Some good ones in there, Greg! Not sure I'll have time to put together a list of my own, but I might have wanted to include a few of yours!

Thanks. I know you know lots and lots so I could well imagine you wanting to make a long list -- it not feeling right to leave out so many -- but if you or others want to come up with some shorter lists of tracks that are special to you off the top of your heads, then I would like to explore those. Some of those I mentioned are ones that I have brought forth the proverbial million times at PA, and some others I have not given attention or much attention to, at least in topics at PA. While if including the super well-trodden for me, I way wish to skip some of those in the playlists (most even that I have obsessed over here I still get excitement hearing again), it is so wonderful to me to make playlists and listen again and get some new context for music and a deeper appreciation for some of it. Note that if anyone does play the playlist, that Weyes' Blood video for Wild Time is not work safe, has nudity (makes me feel so nostalgic). And some of my list can get a bit extreme, like my choices for Lingua Ignota (that first one I posted from her gets quite beautiful some time after the 5 minute mark, and the second has f*** in it. Uboa can be very harsh. Other things are very airy, dreamy and poppy, like the Beach House, Melody's Echo Chamber... I like a lot of art pop, offbeat, and psych influenced music. Some of my faves have very retro qualities. An issue with me listing as many as I did -- it would be a lot longer if I researched past topics of mine or thought about it more -- is that I know it can be off-putting to others who want to present their own. A top ten is not that challenging other than deciding on what to leave out, thus the no limit on how few or how many one posts... Or the number of lists one makes for that matter, as I might like to make another list not only to cover a track from other albums not represented in the list in the OP, but also for different tracks off the albums I covered. |

Thanks, I look (or hear) forward to the others. I had heard the Shamblemaths, Wobbler, and the Big Big Trains before at least, and I want to mention that I really enjoyed listening through Ingranaggi della Valle's Call for Cthulhu: Promise. I made a little playlist of your suggestion in case others who use youtube to listen to music may wish to check them out. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4JIMGh-idQiqy8YfW7nzbS1 I did not find the specific Nine Stones Close track on youtube, but it is here: https://ninestonesclose.bandcamp.com/track/spoils Started listening; enjoying it. :) Edited by Logan - October 03 2023 at 10:39 |

^ I enjoyed that Marco Minnemann. Nice.
I actually hadn't originally planned to post that list in my OP and was just preparing it for my own interest, but then decided I might as well try to continue that sort of topic I started with for the 2020s so far. I don't expect others to check out the music or consider my list. I am interested to see what others post, and to see what contemporary music of any and all genres the various forum members are into. I hope to make some pleasurable discoveries that are new-to-me thanks to the lists, find common ground with people, and be exposed to some music of the kinds that I might not normally listen (outside my wheelhouses). 4, 5, 10, 50 tracks, that's all good to me (not that I will listen to all, especially if there are many -- if a playlist is presented with many choices, well then I generally am quite adept at scanning music in quite a fair manner without judging too quickly). ------------------------------------------------------------ On my list I think the singular track from the period that has meant the most to me is the well-known David Bowie's "Blackstar." I have spoken to one at PA that thinks that to be a poor one from the album, but to me it is top-notch, gets me every time (to each his own). Weyes Blood' "Wild Time" feels like a good song of the day for me today because it's like, how much more wild could this day be? And the answer is none. None more wild. Lots of great prog albums in this time but I struggle to pick individual tracks on these albums. Also I don't listen to a lot of non prog either and in this period discovered no new artists in that regards.
My favourite albums in this period 1. Big Big Train - Folklore (''The Transit Of Venus Across the Sun'' is lovely). 2. Haken - Affinity (''1985'') 3. Steve Hackett - At The Edge Of Light (''Those Golden Wings'') 4. Far Corner - Risk (''Flim Flan Man'') 5. All Traps On Earth - A Drop Of Light (the 18 minute title track) 6. I.Q. - Resistance ( ''A Missile'') 7. The Tangent - Proxy (the 16 minute title track) 8. Wobbler - From Silence To Nowhere (the 20 minute title track!) 9. Elephant 9 - The Greatest Show On Earth ( ''Actionpack 1'') 10. Thieves' Kitchen - Genius Loci ('' The Voice Of The Lar'') |
