Chausse Trappe were a French krautrock group, in existence from 2009 to 2013. The band began as a trio consisting of Clément Couturier (violin), Mériadeg Orgebin (bass/guitar) and Armand Placet (drums), becoming a quartet in 2010 with the addition of Nicolas Joubaud (bass/guitar). France Sauvage's Johann Mazé replaced Placet the following year, crystallising the classic lineup for which Chausse Trappe would be known. With a reputation for energetic and hypnotic live shows, Chausse Trappe's noisy, droning instrumental music blurred the lines between krautrock, post-rock and minimalism, revealing an appreciation for Faust, Neu!, the Velvet Underground, Rhys Chatham and Tony Conrad. The group released two LPs, 2011's 420m3 37'14" and 2014's self-titled, both through independent Nantes label Kythibong Records. Chausse Trappe disbanded in late 2013, and Joubaud and Orgebin later co-founded the like-minded krautrock project Spelterini in 2017.
