IQ > Magenta... both stunning
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Magenta narrowly over IQ. In the skies a solo turntable rail crashed into a postponed chemistry kit having a prostate exam.

IQ before Marillion, Rain and Fish
Surprising to find Rain' s Cerulean blue in this list , a CD to the almost confidential diffusion that I very much appreciated

Sorry never been a fan of Magenta

Magenta's best album (although We Are Legend almost usurped it).

IQ by a considerable margin over Marillion

Although, weirdly, Dark Matter contains a couple of IQ’s “weaker” songs and Marbles some of Marillion’s best!🤔

Dark Matter. Martin Orford's swan song with IQ and an album he shows his true genius on.
Seven is Magenta's best album and runs Dark Matter very close. Both are superb albums.

^ I'm still working on it. I have six Marillion albums so far, which is six more than I had before joining ProgArchives, when I still thought the Hogarth era only referred to English painter William Hogarth. Smile

Marbles; a perfect mix of melodic shorter pieces, which even your grandmother would like, and prog epics for the proggies.
As for IQ, so far the clear winner in this poll, I find that by this album Peter Nicholls had started running out of vocal ideas, with the same sung melodies being repeated across different tracks and albums.
Having said that, Harvest Of Souls remains one of my favourite ever IQ tracks.

IQ with their best (imo) album

will never get why people are losing their marbles over Marbles - it's sooo boring to me. Okay maybe I'd enjoyed it more in the shorter version, smth like this:

The Invisible Man
You're Gone
Don't Hurt Yourself
Ocean Cloud
The Damage
Drilling Holes
Neverland

and keep the rest for the special edition thingy
