I would like to hear that Future Kings of England album in full at some time. Not a strong year for me either in terms of quantity at least that I know. The only album I have heard here in full is the Rush when it came out, and I was not big on it.

In PA, a few I like are:
William D. Drake - Briny Hooves (love this album)
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Alamaailman Vasarat - Maahan
Far Corner - Endangered
Angels of Light - We Are Him
Setna - Cycle I
Robert Wyatt - Comicopera

And aa couple of ladies not in PA:
PJ Harvey - White Chalk
St. Vincent - Marry Me

A Great Year 2007, I'll vote Beardfish

Your Dream Theater tier gives me a feeling of Strange Deja Vu as it's very close to my DT albums ranking too. Smile

I made a DT ranking on a metal site, I think I shocked a few people. LOL

I think Mike has Six Degrees just right, and actually agree with all of his top album selections. Of course it then becomes very subjective;

I certainly prefer ADToE, to BCaSL, although I agree it is probably less original and fairly safe.

I've never likes FII much, much preferring the out-take material (Cristi and I have mentioned this before).

I can understand why people like the Astonishing, but it left me fairly cold.

"outsized distaste"?! That's harsh.
But you described the album perfectly. LOL I agree. Smile

Scarsick by Pain of Salvation gets my vote. Scarsick is one of my favorite albums from POS and, in my opinion, their most underrated work.

Not a high point either, but definitely superior to Systematic Chaos. Thumbs Up

Much preferred Dramatic Turn to either of them, personally.

You are not the only one with such a preference, I understand it at least. Smile
