At the Democratic National Convention (DNC), they tried to enliven the usually drab proceeding of a roll call by having each delegation choose music to represent them. Many states featured a song by an artist who was from there. In some cases, they chose a song that could be associated with the state (e.g., B-52's "Private Idaho" for Idaho even though the band is from Georgia). For Georgia, they had rapper Lil Jon appear live. Some states just chose popular songs that went with overall spirit with no obvious connection with the state.
Illinois chose Alan Parson's Project "Sirius" because the music has been the introduction music for the Chicago Bulls for years and is particularly associated with the Michael Jordan era. Not surpisingly, Kansas used "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas. So, two tracks by prog artists were used! Expanding this beyond the U.S., my question is: If you were part of a roll call, what prog track would you choose for your state/territory/region/country and why? Didn't realize you are from Alabama. But it isn't prog and that was the song used at the DNC though LS are from Florida. |

^^Actually, it could be wherever you are from. U.S. is okay.
I am originally from California and I decided on Spock's Beard "Something Very Strange" because we Californians tend to be strange and Spock's Beard formed in L.A. |

^ I had a song lined up for Alaska, but it's not prog, so I'll have to think again.

Too bad they didn't pick a King's X song to represent Missouri.

Or, since they are based out of Houston. I was thinking of them for Texas. I saw them 30+ years ago in San Francisco and they had the Texas state flag as their backdrop. So, I think of them as Texas.

Not what I would describe as a "Prog song", but Sparks (from California) is included in Crossover Prog. Like British Columbia (BC or B.C. for short) where I hail from, California is on the west coast of North America. On the album Propaganda, which is an apt name for something used in politics, there is a short song called "BC". Being short, this catchy ditty could be played in its entirety.
Sparks "BC" (Propaganda, 1974) A verse from the song: BC, that takes care of ABC BC, that takes care of ABC Once the fixture of the ages, the Yellow Pages start With baby's needs BC, back to swinging in the trees BC, back to crawling on my knees Aside from the appropriate BC title for BC, I do believe that this kind of music would go down really, really well here with very many people.
