 Topic: BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST

One of those historic bands belonging to the so-called "pastoral" progressive branch for their symphonic style and for their poetic images.After a timid 45 for the PARLOPHONE label in 1968, the band choosed the way of an arioso pop that combines melody a' la BEATLES with the symphonic prog of the MOODY BLUES.Their first 4 albums (HARVEST period) are full of orchestral arrangements and mellotron, but they don't sell enough.In 1974 they released "EVERYONE IS EVERYBODY ELSE" ( first album for the POLYDOR label), which gave signs of a clear progression and it raised sales.Later came "BJH LIVE" in 1974, "TIME HONOURED GHOST" in 1975, "OCTOBERON" in 1976 and "GONE TO EARTH", the best album of the POLYDOR period and also their last interesting work.

...I have to agree with you; 'Everyone' was their best...uniformly good.
although I did notice you missed out 'Welcome to the Show' which I also had a sneaking admiration for, years ago...

What a great suprise!!! another italian BJH die-hard fan!!
My fav is Everyone Is Everybody Else, but all are marvellous albums!!
XII, for example, is another favourite of mine!

I prefer the second, really. That's because of the too many re-arrenged tracks on the first one!!
That quote from Oasis on the new lyrics of Titles offended me a lot! 
Never liked Oasis!

BJH Live is one of the 5 really great live albums (Camel - A Live Record, Rush - ATWAS, Mostly Autumn - Live at the Grand Opera House and Runrig - Once in a Lifetime are the others).
BJH are terribly underrated. How they do not have at least one album in the top 100 baffles me. (Same goes for Strawbs!)

BJH were misssed by their own country, a shame i admit. But, i find them one of the finest bands in the UK, seen them live only once, but they were brillaint, bu tmissed the last train home and had to walk 10 miles home.
So many good albums, but i like turn of the tide.

'Once Again', without a doubt. It's their proggiest album by some margin too, and they never bettered it for me personally. However, I have pretty much all of them from the debut up til 'Ring Of Changes' and they are all great albums.

I think that "Octoberon" squeaks in at the top - with "XII" close behind, and "Gone To Earth" on its heels.

Everyone Is Everybody Else is a record that has taken me by surprise. Years after I listened to it for the 1st time, I found out that it has become one of my favourite records of all time, close to being in my top 10. I never expected that: the record is so gentle, so unambitious, but all the songs are very good and the sound and the whole idea is great. Even the lyrics are fantastic.
One of my friends has For No One as his favourite song ever. My favourite track would be See Me See You, though.

BJH Live features the music that carries me away to Progheaven, what a wonderful Mellotron drenched compositions, so warm and compelling and lots of sensitive electric guitar soli. The structure is simple but very tasteful, you got the idea that BJH is there to please you, to share your emotions! I don't have a favorite album because the two live albums (Live from 1974 and Live Tapes from 1978) deliver their best work and the live versions sound more compelling and moving in my opinion. BJH is the only band that can compete with the symphonic rock dinosaurs in terms of 'most played records', especially BJH Live, every month I have a few sessions with it!
And great to notice that due to the work of Andrea C and Andrew BJH got the attention they deserve, their nickname The Poor Man's Moody Blues is history!

BJH is very good, maybe not as adventurous as some other bands on the site, but the atmosphere, the compositions and the playing are very well. They made a lot of high quality albums. They are a major league band as far as I'm concerned.
My favourite album, as I said, is Everyone Is Everybody Else. It has no weak songs on it. And some real classics, like Child Of The Universe, See Me See You and For No One.

A really difficult choice. I went for the first album because I love its diversity. I find "When the world was woken" to be a sublime track.
