I've been considering buying some albums with Magma but I'm too scared to because Christian Vander looks ultra evil on most photos, in fact he sort of looks like he's possessed by the devil. Ok I'm exaggerating a bit, but don't you think he kind of looks evil?

Well I have the "Theusz Hamtaahk" DVD and Christian is quite the sight to watch.  I've never seen someone so intense and absorbed by the music.  It's almost like he's possessed.  Very entertaining to watch him perform and especially the rest of the band.  I highly recommend this DVD to the more adventurous progger.

Magma rules! Vander is obsessed with music - good music - and this makes him a very strange guy in times of easy listening "music".

Vander is quite a comedian and quite a likeable character (and very funny too) , but also knows his facial expressions and uses them accordingly.

Absolutely not evil.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Christian Vander looking evil is merely a byproduct of the fact that he is evil.

Watch a video of Magma performing. Only then will you know.

Vander always was doing the funky facial expressions.  My favorite is in that video of De Futura that is on youtube in a wide variety of lengths and qualities where Vander looks absolutely possessed during the accelerating part.

I also find the one in my signature amusing.

Vander is like a madman when drumming, and his facial expressions are proof of that. I especially like the contrast between him and the other drummer who keeps a pokerface all the time in the "De Futura" video

My Mum would say "He has taken something" when seeing Vander play, but I doubt he needs any stimuli. His drug is the music.
