Just reading an excellent interview by Andy Robson of Terj Rypdal in the latest Jazzwise magazine. The article starts with Robson quoting Rypdal: "To Tony Meehan" - i.e. an interview made immediately after the untimely death of the Shadows' original drummer. Then Robson digs out the fact that John McLaughlin and John Paul Jones, respectively played guitar and bass in the Tony Meehan Combo - which I will add, reflects that in these UK session musicians getting together in an attempt to make it big (Meehan too did a lot of session work after leaving the Shadows; his successor Brian Bennett moonlighted with Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames) - fortune came to both 6 or 7 years later.
Terj Rypdal has new jazz rock album out on ECM Vossabrygg, recorded live with a number of notable Norwegian musicians including Bugge Wesseltoft - a tribute to Miles Davis and Bitch's Brew.
