I´ve been listening to a lot of Kansas recently. I usually listen on headphones. One thing that I have noticed- in the earlier Kansas with Dave Hope on bass, the sound really stood out. (Same as Geddy Lee of Rush)

With Billy Greer, the bass sound seems a bit lost in the mix. (Same as John Myung of Dream Theater)

Anyone agree or disagree?

I think Dave Hope is great Bass player but Billy Greer is too plus he has a great voice.  But Hope wrote all those bass lines for the most part so you have to give it up to him.  The remastered Kansas material that came out the last few years really clean up the bass and it is much more pronounced.  I don't listen to much of the studio stuff with BG except STE and he sounds fine on that.

You´re right,as alwaysWink, Billy Greer does a good all round job on the DVD Device Voice Drum. I was listening to Two for the show and the bass work really shines. I wonder what Dave Hope is doing now?

Amazingly he is a pastor at a church in Destin, Florida, unless something has changed recently. The website for the church is:

Dave Hope , Kerry Livgren, Neil Morse  & John Elefonte should team up and do a Christian prog CD some day  ( theres loads of talent there )  Can anybody think of a Christian drummer to fill the missing position ?

The guy who played drums in AD, Dennis Holt, but I don't know what he doing these days.  He was a pretty solid drummer on the first couple of AD albums.

Dave Hope is in my list of favorite bass players! His bass lines in Kansas are beautiful. He is better than Billy Greer in my opinion, but Greer is ok and have a good voice.
