I only recently learned about Gnidrolog from my b-in-l. Lady Lake sounded very interesting. What do others think? Were their re-union worth it?

Gnidrolog are very good band. I do not know about their reunion much and have not heard yet their latest album, but the two I have ("Lady lake" and "In spite of harry's toenail") are both great, well, "Lady lake" is slightly better IMO. You can listen to stream of best song from their second album on this site.
There were long discussions about this band on these forums in the past, so if you search, you might find useful information here.
It's amazing how nowadays no-one seems to react to the thread called Gnidrolog. Same could not have happened half an year ago, but now we have three pages of dithyrambs to Threshold instead.

Better get the other albums rather than that 99 Gnosis album. Rather diappointing even if some tracks are good (namely the opener)
Lady Lake is the easier to get into , because it is not as harsh-sounding, however their debut In Spite Of Harry's Toenail (hilarious background to that title) is maybe more rewarding ultimately, but you might want to make sure you getthe proper release with the four not-available-elsewhere bonus tracks
The posthumous Live 72 album is plagued with poor sound but has many un-released tracks that makes it indispensible too

Agree with both responses above. Lady Lake is a great album, and
definitely worth checking out, especially if you like Crimson or VDGG,
because while they don't necessarily sound alike, Gnidrolog shares a
lot of musical ideas with those two bands.

I have to say that the more I listen to Gnidrolog, the better I like Colin Goldring's somewhat personal voice.

I recently picked up the first two albums on one CD in a Virgin clearout sale, although I first heard of them as a teenage Steeleye Span fan in the 1970s. Both of the original studio albums are pretty good - Lady Lake is more consistent in terms of quality, but the debut has some moments of real inspiration. As well as the VDGG/Crimson influence, there's a bit of Gentle Giant in there as well. Very enjoyable stuff, especially if you're a fan of early 70s British prog.

In Spite Of Harry's Toenail is an amazing album, there are some jagged riffs on that album that are almost years ahead of their time, no joke, especially on a song like Snails, the flute playing by Nigel Pegrum is manic and wonderful as well,

I just picked up the 2 on 1 Gnidrolog CD, and I'm listening to it right now. They are both excellent.

I have the 2-in-1 ordered, hopefully I'll get it sometime in the next few weeks!
Edit: They were shipped yesterday, so I should get them soon!

For weeks I've listened to almost nothing else but Gnidrolog's 2in1 CD,
and it keeps rising higher and higher. What a pity that this kind of
band vanished so quickly after their two fantastic albums in 1972.
Their ability to write many-folded compositions AND to play them well
with a great variety of instrumentation is second to Gentle Giant only.
Strongly recommended!

*saunters in to basically reiterate a post he made three months ago*
Gnidrolog Live 1972 is also a fantastic and essential release for anyone in need of more Gnidrolog once the two original studio albums are exhausted. Get it before Gnosis.
*saunters out again to watch the pretty butterflies*

I received the 2for1 Gnidrolog CD last week.
I haven't yet listened to Lady Lake.
I wish I hadn't listened to the ...Toenail... one
Still, it'll make a (rather expensive) bird scarer........
Someone earlier said they're a bit like KC........Ho hum......
Someone else mentioned Colin Goldring's "somewhat personal voice"........Ho hum.........I too have a somewhat personal voice, but am considerate enough not to sing............I am reminded of the old definition of a gentleman as someone who can play the bagpipes, but doesn't..............these guys are not gentlemen.........

Unique vocalist, excellent musicianship, songs bordering Crimso and VDGG yet very original - is that enough?.. I must say that "I could never be a Soldier" and "Ship" are among the best songs I EVER heard!!!

I have always thought these albums were masterpieces, Lady Lake especially. There is a genuine synergy between the members of this band, which is even more amazing if you have ever read about the backstabbing and betrayal that followed the release of the Lady Lake album. If I remember correctly, band members other than the Goldrings hijacked the name and formed a seperate band or kicked the two brothers out - it all got quite nasty.
The Goldrings used to have thier own website with an exhaustive history of the band but this disappeared off the map ages ago. It was up there with Dave Stewarts sleevenotes on the National Health Complete CD in not only describing the history of a particular band but also a fascinating insight into the prog scene in the UK in the early 70's.
Anyone know if their site is gone for good?

The edgier debut In Spite... is my favorite, but both are great. I got used to his voice. Actually I find the vocals very moving.
