Keep up the good work admins. After all discussing the inclusion of bands is not allowed, so closing my thread was the right thing to do. I've decided to change my signature to reflect the spirit of this site.

I agree with your topic header, but for vastly different reasons. Wouldn't be a case of our senior member wanting to get the last word in? ON REFLECTION please, nobody respond.A reprise of this is more than anyone could stand IMO!
Looking still the same after all these years...

That discussion was futile, it was taking nowhere, you didn't wanted to listen anything, so waht was the point, that thread was going to end terribly.

And believe me, I'm one of the most stubborn purists here, I made six or seven pages threads against the inclusion of a determined bend as many other members, but the difference is that we all were able to listen reasons and give arguments.

Go to any other Prog place from the Progressive Web Ring and you'll find that Proto Prog is a well recognized sub-genre and that Iron Butterfly is included:

Quote Proto-Progressive
Where late 60s psych ends and early 70s progressive rock begins is often referred to as proto-progressive, due to the music's embryonic similarities to the earliest progressive rock groups. While this is accurate as far as the definition of "proto-" goes, another common definition of this term is sort of as "almost progressive," artists which might bear some resemblance to the genre, but are not commonly considered as such. Some widely varying examples of what might be considered "proto-prog" are The Beatles circa Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Peppers ..., Tommy and Quadrophenia period Who, Procol Harum, Traffic, early Deep Purple and Uriah Heep.

http://www.gepr.net/genre2.html

Even though they go too far (Quadrophenia is too late to be considered Proto Prog and Uriah Heep is 100% Prog), the similarities are amazing

BTW: If you don't like the politic of this place, the doors are wide open you won't be the last one to leave and for sure not remotely the last one to join the forum.

Ivan....as for Quodrophenia being too late to be regarded as proto prog, your highlighted quote (now in red) covers that point nicely.

In regards to Uriah Heep being 100% Prog, well thats very dubious to say the least.

Yes I admit about Uriah Heep being dubious, not for me, but there's no certain truth.

But proto means Pre....before.

Proto:

1 a : first in time <protohistory> b : beginning : giving rise to <protoplanet>
2 : parent substance of a (specified) substance <protactinium>
3 : first formed : primary <protoxylem>

An album released well advanced the 70's during the peak of Prog, can't be considered Proto Prog.

In that case will probably be Art Rock or tghis new invention called Prog Related.
