Both are some Teachers of the guitar.

MCLAUGHLIN is a monster and invented (with Mahavishnu Orchestra) the Jazz Metal.
AL DI MEOLA is a modern minstrel and its Flamenco style is to say little... Extraordinary.

MCLAUGHLIN NO CONTEST!!!
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Mahavishnu McLaughlin. Ever heard Inner Mounting Flame? That's some killer theory + the chops to die for. The man picks every one of those lightning fast notes. No cheating hammer-ons anywhere.

Two very good artists, and really it comes down to preference. I like em both.
I like a lot of Di Meola's recent releases. Very nice stuff.

You've just had a heavy session of electroshock therapy, and you're more relaxed than you've been in weeks.
