haha, actually it was 00:12
All or them are worth players, skillfull and with their particular touch, i personally like Stanley Clarke a lot, not only when he was on Return to Forever, but as a solo artist, oh man, great!
But the other ones are great too!!
Love Levin, but actually i find BLS not so Jazzy.. so it doesnt counts here .....

Jeff Berlin is just utterly incredible on jazz bass, listen to the work he did with Bill Bruford on Feels Good to Me and One of a Kind.

My vote goes for Michael Manring. I was present in a show here in Costa Rica and boys, believe me this guy is a genius. I love his style and inspiration.
Billy Sheehan and Sean Malone are also vey good too...!

Where's Percy Jones (Brand X)? By far the most original bassist, next to Jaco, nobody sounds like that.

Percy Jones is definitely missing on the list. and as usual nobody
named the two outstanding bass players from Germany, Helmut Hattler and
Gerald Luciano Hartwig. I also like Patrice Congas a lot, who appears
on the two solo albums of Christian Boulé. does anybody have an idea
where he has played else?

Totally agree - Percy Jones used to beat Pastorius in jazz bassist polls in the US in the late 70's because of his originality My gripe the omission of Jonas Hellborg who at is responsible for at least two seminal jazz rock album in the 90's . Then where is Matthew Garrison, Alphonso Johnson, Jamaladene Tacuma, Miroslav Vitous, Victor Bailey, Alan Caron, Ralph Armstrong, Al Garcia, Stu Hamm (equal to Billy Sheehan), Jimmy Johnson. BTW anybody heard more than the albums Rick Laird did with Mahavishnu Orchestra - surely a bit lost in the mix? Check Horace Arnold's Tales Of The Exonerated Flea, with Jan Hammer also in support. |
