To keep it simple: Are, in your opinion, vocals absolutely necessary for a fulfilling musical experience?

It depends what kind of experience you're after and/or what kind of music you're listening to to get that experience.

It Depends, I prefer the music rather than the lyrics.

I don't think that is absolutely necessary, but it can be a good addition

Always a plus...but not a necessity.

Not absolutely... I'm thinking about many amazing Camel songs where the guitar or the flute "sings" and many other prog instrumentals that sound perfectly complete as they are.

Just listen to Camel's ''The Snow Gooze'' and you will easily realize how vocals are absolutely necessary to make a progressive masterpiece.

My answer is NO, moreover there are so many bands which could do so much better without any vocals at all.

I agree 100%. However, the vocals have to be really good - otherwise you get the opposite effect. I love instrumental pieces quite a lot most of the time, and some are among my all-time favourites.

When Tangerine Dream decided to include vocals it certainly wasn't a plus. Voted no.
