That does sound very cruel, but then again that is business. Business must come first with Fripp.

There's the famous, often questioned limo ride with Lake (see search button), that seems to be a popular one.

I heard it's almost impossible to get his autograph. I read some interview where he gave a really verbose, wordy reason why he doesn't like signing autographs. He seems like a really distant, cold guy on the outside.

Most of his releases have complete rubbish on them . Here I don't mean filler or thin pop tracks but complete utter crap.

Time is too precious a commodity to waste on 10 minutes of moonchild and the last 10 minutes of In the Wake of Poseidon. I would rather he made a 30 minute disk than treat the listener as a fool.

Oh no, an artist does something outside of his art that I dislike! I will value his art less now!

What's wrong with the last ten minutes of In The Wake?

Wowo...Fripp's not the most elysian or accommodating working musician out there...but where in his contract as an arist does it say he has to be; has to be NICE to complete strangers whose demands are astronomical, etc?

Read his diaries...past, present, and future...they'll give you an idea of who he is.  Go to DGMLIVE.com.

QFT. Maybe that means you wouldn't want to be his friends, but you shouldn't judge his work differently just cause he was an asshole.

No I understand where he's coming from entirely; imagine you listened to somebody's music and liked it a LOT and embraced it as part of yourself and later they turned on their own values and gave the fans a big 'F.U.'.

When Metallica sold out, fans stopped listening to them altogether. Part of the music is the attitude of the performer/composer, and if their attitude isn't in tune with their music chances are they're in it for other reasons than 'self-expression'.

I can't seem to find the limo thread either, but the supposed basic story was:

Fripp came to visit Lake when ELP was on tour in '77. Lake talked to him for a while backstage and eventually, the two got in a limo together. During the ride, Lake suggested to Fripp that they get the original lineup of KC back together. Fripp didn't give a straight answer and he said he'd give Lake a call. Lake wanted an answer on the spot and Fripp asked, "What do you think?". Lake promptly threw him out of the car.

Of course, everybody denies it and it could've been that Fripp threw Lake out instead, which would be why I referenced it in the first place.

I'm not saying I disagree with Fripp's attitude at all, but since this thread is about discussion of whether or not he is a "jerk", I thought it would be interesting to mention. His personality doesn't negatively affect my enjoyment of his music at all.

If you want legendary band-leading b*****ds check out the Buddy Rich thread started earlier this year and the mp3 sample

Speaking with Jakko Jakszyk before the start of my radio show, it will clear this very honest musician, had a lot of affection and respect for Robert Fripp. Many of the comments above are not confirmed.

Robert Fripp is a passive-agressive, very demanding personality. If things doesn't work as he wants he starts to behave very rude like disqualifying, ignoring, provoking and often making rude of humiliating comments. For example, he annoyed people around him by playing scales on his guitar for hours or didn't speak to the other band members on tour for days because he was upset about a small thing ..Wacko.
I suggest to read In The Court Of King Crimson by Sid Smith (I have reviewed it on this site), you will be astonished how rude Robert Fripp can be .. Angry

I just read your review, it sounds like Fripp had some social and/or emotional problems, I knew he was eccentric, perhaps he isn't a jerk maybe he's just misunderstood?
