Does someone knows "If I Could Only Remember My Name" by David Crosby? Read excellent reviews. Edited by oliverstoned - August 08 2006 at 17:31 |

A great album, by one of my favourite vocalists. It features a 'Who's-Who' of backing musicians. Jerry Garcia, Nash, Young, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane and many others. It is very much an album of its time (1971), but I love it. It's worth having if only for the track 'Laughing', one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

DITTO!!!
I don't like every song on the album, but the good songs are great. In addition to "Laughing", I love "Traction in the Rain", "Orleans", and "I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here". A couple of other tunes with wordless vocals, "Tamalpais High" and "Song With No Words" are good, too.
I might as well recommend Graham Nash's first solo album, too. It has some great stuff on it, notably "Sleep Song", "Simple Man", "I Used to be a King", "Wounded Bird", and "Better Days", as well as the hits "Chicago" and "Military Madness".

Truly an "ethereal" album and very haunting. Crosby always traveled on his own dirt road, away from the interstate, and this, his first solo effort, is a real gem. Glad to know there are still music lovers who are getting turned on to this work. Unfortunately, drugs got the best of David and his later offerings were never up to this quality.

It has a little bit of a Crosby/Nash feel to it, with wordless vocal pieces; but there are a few songs that are more improvised and have a rougher edge than a CSN album. |

Sounds good. Not "too gentle" as CSN can be. Edited by oliverstoned - August 09 2006 at 11:01 |

Think of it as a Grateful Dead album with Crosby on lead vocals - it's very spacy, haunting stuff full of unexpected twists and turns. Enjoy!

Just received the CD... I don't regret my purchase, this is very good! As good as the best CSN, but more sophisticated. Soft, aerial, melancholic and moving, beautiful melodies and excellent guitar. Of course, "Song with no words" is beautiful. Good production on top of that. Thanks a lot for the good advices, guys! ![]() Edited by oliverstoned - August 18 2006 at 11:22 |

By far Crosby's best. A laid-back classic with killer compositions and musicians. Crosby has never been one to lay down great melodies but the lyrics, musicianship and overall vibe carry the day. A five-star classic....and an excellent addition to ANY record collection.
