Topic: Anglagard's Best Album Posted: August 21 2006 at 10:40 |
In my opinion, "Epilog" is a true masterpiece. "Hybris" is also a masterpiece, but if I need to rate the albums so I would give 10 to "Epilog" and 9.5 to "Hybris" (only ) What's your opinion?

Epilog is over-looked. It is as good as, if not even better than, Hybris.

Quite alot actually! It's the same as genius and most genius. I wouldn't call Hybris or Epilog true masterpieces though...

Let's take Yes for an example: You hear CTTE for the first time, and you label it a masterpiece right away... Then TfTO comes to the picture, and you realise, that this is in fact the true masterpiece. It's the same with Selling England by the Pound and Foxtrot. (I'm judging from my own experiences of course)

In one sense, a masterpiece is an outstanding artistic work -- in this case an exceptional prog album. In the other it's an artist's (or group's) best work (which I imagine is what is meant by the "true masterpiece" here).
I also think both albums to be masterpieces of progressive rock, but if I had to choose Anglagard's masterpiece, maybe Hybris. Their both pretty much equally good for me.

Surely an artist can only have one masterpiece,"true" or otherwise.. I'm not sure either of Anglagard's albums quite falls into that category. Very good albums though....

I'm not really sure. What If you encounter an album, that you consider to be a masterpiece, only to find another album by that artist better? Does the first album then lose it's rank of a "master's piece"?

Hybris. Epilog is too inconsistent.

Sadly, I agree. Epilog didn't hit me as Hybris did.

Hybris. Its an anachronism of its time, Its as if they were jamming with Yes, and ELp before they recorded the albums, its at the samel caliber as the symphonic titans
