Does anyone know what this language is and what it means? "Ritual - Nous Sommes du Soleil"

LOVE this song...think topographic is an astounding album, depresses me that Wakeman didnt enjoy making this...kind of takes away from it.

Anyways, does anyone know andersons intentions with this song, and maybe a little background on the album?  it seems to have a strong surrounding concept....i jus dont get it, but i love the songs!

Literally translated it's "we are of the sun", so "from" works as well.

I don't think so actually. As a french speaker, I know that We are the Sun would be an awkward translation for Nous sommes du Soleil. It would be possible that it's what Anderson meant but if it is, it just doesn't sound good in french.

Nous sommes du Soleil litteraly means We are of the Sun.

Nous sommes le Soleil would mean We are the sun.

I spoke three at 19 - Italian, English and French. Now I speak 5. It's not impossible to do, if you only want to learn and apply yourself to that.

I recall the story behind the album being in the liner notes, check there, but if not, they are based on Shastric scripture, in particular: "The album's concept, a four-piece work of symphonic length and scope (incidentally based on the Shastric scriptures, as found in a footnote within Paramahansa Yogananda's book Autobiography of a Yogi)," (from wikipedia)

I believe Jon stumbled upon the text while they were on tour in Japan.  Please someone correct me if this is wrong, I used to know the story behind Tales but it's been many years.

By the way, though Bern is fluent in French (I believe he is Quebecois), one need not be fluent to translate "Nous Sommes du Soleil" - it's trivial even for those of us who did the standard 4-year high school French education here in the US.  All you need to know is how to conjugate the verb être (to be), that de le (of the) contracts to du, and le soleil is the sun.

All of this right, from me being a Québécois to the grammar rules Wink

I have a specific background in languages, having a degree in Foreign Languages with English as a major subject. I started learning English at 8 and French at 11 (the latter at school), then took German at university (and am still learning it, though I'm quite fluent by now), and finally learnt Finnish when living in Finland (I was there almost 6 years). I have also studied some Swedish, and understand Spanish reasonably well, though I can't speak it very effectively.

As to your own situation... well, NYC doesn't seem exactly a backwater to me! I'm sure there are thousands of language courses available, and lots of foreigners live there too (I know there are lots of Italians).

I speak three and nobody says anything nice about that...CryCryCry

jejeje, na the concept is pretty easy to understand...IF you understand Andersons lyrics ejejej Its about God, the beaty of his creations and how he is in every little thing, well at least I get that from Tales

"You want me to play what, Robert?"
