I can't recommend tracks, but I can recommend albums.

. . .

Pick whatever you like. All 3 albums are great in their own form. If you don't like one then don't be afraid to try the other two because they all have a different style, but still keeping the Mars Volta sound. Judging by your favorite bands, Frances The Mute or Amputechture would be a good place to start. If you don't enjoy wierd psychedelic sounds then skip Frances The Mute for the momment and get Amputechture.

Yes, I'm ready too. Unfortunately I just picked up that live one-- not a good starter but the reviews here bear that out, so I'm going to give Frances a try...

The only band I share with you in terms of really liking is Genesis (though Crimson and Yes are OK), and I think TMV are awful. My advice is to stay back. However, if you are determined to give them a try, try amputechture. It sounds better than FtM, and I felt de-loused was awful.

I have a friend who loves Genesis and he liked the track Tetragrammaton a lot. He said it sounded like it in some spots. Maybe it'll be the same for you Smile

I just quickly listened to amputechture online, and it's definitely better than de-loused, not that that means much.

Tetragrammaton is easily the band's best song off either of those two albums, but again, not very impressive as a whole.

De-loused is probably the best introduction to this band, it's their most accessible album. If you like it, go for Amputechture. Get Frances the Mute last. If you don't like it immediately, be patient and give it a couple more careful listens.

I went with Amputechture and after one listen I like it.

Interesting things happening. The band is not afraid to take chances. Singer is good.

Singer is very good indeed - guy has got voice and he knows how to sing - this is rarity nowadays.
You second purchase should be Frances the Mute.

EDIT: and I love Taal, KC and Genesis.

I'm going to fully absorb Amputechture....not sure how long it will take, then see about Deloused... and Frances the Mute.

Also, I really like their album covers! heh!
