Prog Archives is fantastic and has a huge number of bands and cds. So many in fact that it takes ages to browse through them. What I would appreciate is a link that randomly generates CD review/page (or list of CDs) so that I could be surprised by something I might hav glossed over whilst browsing.

Anyone else?

I think that's a cool idea.

Plus. It would be easy to program the database to do this...

There are similar threads on this.

It is a good idea and one which is under consideration. the priority just now for M@x (the webmaster) though, is to complete the essential updates needed for the site.

Cheers

a very interesting feature as to go deep in the less known things.

besides the encouragement to not review only the top references, I think the idea would suit fine a future improvement.

Oh, I just remembered that it might be useful to re-mention this: I did a very simple implementation of this (based on web access, cause I don't have PA database access) on my own web server. Try this if your interested in the feature:

I don't think that's a great idea.

If you want to discover something random, just pick the list of all bands/albums that start with the letter "J" for example, scroll somewhere in the middle, and randomly click on one.
Or: PA is powered by Google search engine anyway. Pick the first word that pop into your mind, life, death, caterpillar, butterfly. Something will come out. I'm doing that occasionally.

It will took only 10 seconds.

I said I don't think that's a great idea. Well, I don't think that's a bad idea neither; people always want to win the lottery, or experience something nice, lovely, without any effort.

It could be done by creating something absolutely random, or random engine could be optionally narrowed by sub-genre, year, etc.

But I think I'm right when I say that M@x is way too busy doing more crucial tasks for PA right now.

I think this is close to the featured artist idea. Anything we could do to promote interest in lesser known music is a good idea.

I'd love to see a random album/review option on the frontpage, but when I take a look at the frontpage as it is, then I can only judge that it's rather 'crowded' already which leaves us little space for such a thing..

Nah, I suppose that would be a bit to drastic... unles you'd want to get rid of the reviews on the frontpage as well, if so: you got my blessing LOL
