Topic: Favorite 60s Prog Album Posted: February 03 2007 at 12:05 |
In the 60s the foundation for prog was being layed and although there werent as many "true prog" artists/albums as in the 70s there was still some fine prog released towards the end of the decade. What is everyone's favorite 60 prog album, lets keep this to "True Prog" artists so please dont mention any artists that fall into proto-prog or prog-related.

King Crimson's ITCOTCK is truely incredible and innovative.
But I would have vote for Pink Floyd's Ummagumma and the avant-garde White Noise's Electric Storm

In the court... - no contest indeed, but it's worth mentionning here another great often overlooked album - Arzachel by Arzachel.

ITCOTCK, of course - though I also have a weakness for the first two Pink Floyd albums as well.

Have them all but the best by far is King Crimson - ITCOTCK.

In search of the lost chord strikes a "chord" with me. It was on of those cheap discoveries at the local second hand record store (99 cents, if I remember). Whenever I listen to Voices In The Sky, the melody stays with me for days. Mind you, I picked this up in my youth, when if you got into an album, you practicalIy memorized the damn thing. Then as your collection grows, you're lucky if you can remember the track listings on half your records . I like ITCOTCK, but I've never been able to understand its' iconic status. Guess I'll have to go back & give it a few more listens.

I can't quite decide between "Phallus Dei" by Amon Düül 2 or the self-titled only album of Arzachel.

Or one of these:
Soft Machine: The Second Album High Tide: Sea Shanties Frank Zappa: We're Only in it For the Money (+Incredible String Band : The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter)
I might also go for KC or Amon Düül II.

Got to be Saucerful Of Secrets. A good early prog album.
Crimson's effort it still, to my ears, vastly overrated, and sounds terribly dated in parts now, but Floyd's album still sounds fresh to me.
I prefer Piper, but that is psychedic, not prog.

Stand Up, The Who Sell Out and Whiter Shade of Pale.
Oh, wait, I mean Days of Future Passed. Aside from some poetry, one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

| Yes, formerly Uriel (Dave Stewart, Steve Hillage, Mont Campbell and Clive Brooks) who, minus Hillage, became the great band Egg. Also Touch, the first American organ-based prog band, debut 1969.

I voted Crimson but my favourite sixties album is Love -Forever Changes. I guess that doesn't count as ''prog'' though.

Out of that selection - KC.
