Yesterday I had a dream in which I was listening to a 25 minutes long song by Gentle Giant, that was supposed to be in the Glass house album and being extremly pleased with it, saying it was the best thing Gentle Giant ever did...then I woke up...oh, GG never did such a long song...Cry that´s true...

But wouldn´t it have been great? Specially in that period of them, between Octopus and Glass house, woulnd´t an epic by them had been THE THING??!!?! And why stop with Gentle Giant? What other band did not made that epic that you so much want to listen to? And in which period? It can also be a band that has made such a long song, but you simply want another, maybe from a different era in their music?

I tell you, I think (and I know this might sound crazy) Radiohead right between Ok Computer and Kid A could have done a very, very cool epic...can you picture it?
What about Camel? A 20 minutes song from them in their Moonmadness period?
Maybe even Led Zeppelin, right after doing The houses of the holy???

Think about it...dream about it, better yet. Let´s think "how would that have been..."

Yep, a GG epic would've been something, but hey, at least they managed to sound epic even in their short songs, which wasn't always the case with other prog giants.

A Camel epic during their Moonmadness period ?
Have you forgotten 'Music inspired by The Snow Goose' ?

There's an epic !  If you listen to it as one long song (such as Thick as a Brick, for example) or as a story (Peter and the Wolf) you have your Camel epic right there.

Good question, just read it. The first (not necessarily the best) two bands that popped into my head were 10CC & Supertramp. Mind you, these two are easy as they did play a few tunes over the usual 3-4 minute time limit.

A 25 minute epic by Camel would have been cool. In the vein of "Lady Fantasy" & "Nimrodel". Approve

It's still remarkable that Gentle Giant, by some considered to be the archetypical prog band, never made an epic. Maybe they didn't see any surplus value in it. It has to be said though, that most epics consist of shorter songs. Still, as it comes to Gentle Giant: funny ways...

Most prog bands that I like did cut an epic. But now that I think of it: I really like Asia's debut album. If they would have made an epic, while they were still being a very good band... Just the Asia from the first album.

There's a 20+ minute tune on one of the later Camel releases (Dust & Dreams or Harbour of Tears) and it's mostly just a 5-6 minute tune with a 15 minute gtr solo. Not as good a tune as I hoped for when I saw it.

I was thinking more of the lines of a 15+ minute epic. Sad Rain is great. Heck. All of Vemod is awesome!
