Anyone heard of the Stanley Jordan trio?  They're coming to my alma mater and I might try to grab some tickets.

I saw and meet Gary Husband for the first in the mid 90's touring as part of the Allan Holdsworth Group, when he only played drums. I fortunate to be Gary's guest for the Edbaston, Birmingham gig during the first Force Majeure Band tour, when I got up really close during the rehearsal and took a number of photos of the band on stage. Having heard The Thing I See album, seeing him at the  piano I was very impressed by Husband's playing and compositions. Of course he has recently returned from the USA having played keys for John McLaughlin on tour and apparently doing the same in Europe early this summer.
 
 
 
 
Same rehearsal and few minutes apart.
 
When Jakko Jakszyk guested on my radio show about a year ago, he commented  what a superb pianist Husband is - remember Jakko and Gary were in Level 42 together.

I like John McLaughlin the most (when we are talking about Jazz Fusion)... Miles is good too... Weather Report, Al Di Meola,... I will remember some more, this is just to mention my favorite...

Can someone tell me a little about Pat Metheny? I'm interested in hearing most of the music we add to the site this year, and I've just noticed his name among the recent additions.

I`m listening to Stanley Clarke`s I Wanna Play For You on freakin`good ole vinyl on my good ole freakin` turntable. I don`t even think this one made it to CD.
Actually listened to the new Pat Metheney album in the store. Quite a departure. He actually is finally getting away from all that elevator shlock.

It has but quite some time ago but Columbia and Epic Records seemed to have a different policy to issuing CD in the UK , compared with the North American market during the 90's. However,  I've hung on to my double LPset,  since in part the single CD issue has a couple of the LP tracks edited out - same problem with the first CD issue of Joni Mitchell's Shadows & Light and dare I say it, Kansas's Two For The Show.

Thanks for the info wrt the new Metheny album. I admit the last few PM releases - especially those with that accomplished jazz pianist Brad Mehldau - have left me cold.

Hmfff  Which tracks did the ditch on the CD? I keep checking Wounded Bird Records for the I Wanna Play For You. It`s a pretty good candidate I would think.

There is glowing review of :
in the latest Jazzwise magazine although I can't figure why it ends up with 3 stars, after so much enthusiasm, especially for Jack Bruce performance and some apparently impressive  arrangements of familiar tunes. This is the follow up to Colin Towns/Billy Cobham's Mahavishnu outing with the HR Big Band. Nice to see a spate of Jack Bruce releases (e.g the new Robin Trower collaboration), although Amazon.UK have forgotten to list Jack Bruce's name - so look for 'HR Big Band' if tempted to purchase.
 
Note to Nightfly: how peculiar you can't see the pictures , I can see them in your reply too???????

certain Pat Metheny releases please me, doesnt matter if it's solo or group. my personal favorites are The Way Up, Bright Size Life, JACO, Live on Tour in Europe, Song X,  American Garage, and others i cant remember right now.

I Can See Your House From Here featuring John Scofield is really enjoyable to my ears, great interplay.

Curious to know whether Hassell's recordings differ that much musically from each other. I have JH & Bluescreen's Dressing For Pleasure, said by some to be by some from the period in which Hassell was developing and hence sometimes called 'one of the godfathers of nu.fusion' - so is this typical album or what?

In the last 2 months I've been a bit obsessed with MANUEL MIRANDA's recent release "Brujos Voladores". He is a wind player with a vast experience in the world of fusion, first in Argentina, and in his native Peru for the last 10 years. This "Brujos Voladores" is his most experimental album, giving a heavily eclecti twist to the standards of folk fusion in Peru.

None of these tracks is in the aforesaid album, but it gives you an idea about where he comes from in terms of creating his own vision.

this album was released in 1987 and i also have Power Spot (on ECM) from '86.  there's definitely more 'jazz-fusion'  in these recordings than his really ambient works like Dream Theory In Malaya and Fourth World:Possible Musics Vol 1.  I haven't heard the Bluescreen album or stuff like City:Works of Fiction.
 
But i can see why he's cited as the forefather of nu.fusion.........
