BTW: I'm listening to: Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood: Out Louder

Nice.

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

Call me a Philistine if you will, but can anyone recommend some Jazz fusion with a more structured feel to it? (a la Birds of Fire/Meeting of the Spirits).

First of all, I'd reccomend you to try it some more. Atleast some of my favorite groups and albums has taken some time to really get into. Maybe you should check out the stunning In A Silent Way first? Practically the same line up.

Herbie Hancock's Crossings or Sextant are two masterpieces I warmly reccomend too.
I'll keep trying but I don't think I am a Jazz person. I listen to it like I listen to Classical -rarely and only if I'm in the mood. Good chillout music, but I don't get much from it, unlike Classical.

Thanks for the recommendations anyway, like I said I'll give keep at it but it may not be me, well not unless I am in a chilled out mood.

Prefer the maestro clarinetist of  jazz Benny Goodman - if you would like to investigate 30's jazz live, check out  the marvellous double CD set Live at A Carnegie Hall 1938 - and ask how they managed to recorded 15 minutes tracks back then! What I marvel at is that some the jazz improv heard from the period, I would otherwise swear was something that shouldn't predate the 70's.

Radio String Quartet: Celebrating The Mahavishnu Orchestra - with John McLaughlin's seal of approval. Not the first classical trained group to rearrange  and play jazz fusion - Turtle Island String Quartet have tackled Chick Corea.
