There will be work on a new OSI album in Aprilk apparently.  I'll be looking forward to it.  I really liked the first album, although I wasn't sure it there would be another one to come.

Coalinga knows how to party.

OSI 2
Added on 01-15-2005

According to Blabbermouth.net, Jim Matheos will start working on a new OSI album after April 2005. It is too soon to tell yet if Mike Portnoy will be joining them again.
"After April, FATES WARNING guitarist Jim Matheos will be focusing on a new album from OSI (OFFICE OF STRATEGIC INFLUENCE) (Matheos' collaboration with DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, CHROMA KEY/ex-DREAM THEATER keyboardist Kevin Moore, and GORDIAN KNOT/ex-CYNIC bassist Sean Malone) and hopefully a FATES WARNING tour in the States."

Interesting. I hope Sean Malone has more presence on this one.

Apparently, Daniel Gildenlow was asked to be on the original OSI, and wrote a 20-minute piece of music for it.  Then Matheos told him that he was taking the group in a different direction, and that DG was no longer required.  Would have been interesting to hear that version of OSI.

Hope it's the original line-up on the new one, but as long as it's still Matheos and Moore writing the stuff then it should be good.

Nop, unfortunately not, Mike Portnoy has gone on Tour with Dream Theater (obviously) and probably will not be there until sometime later on this year or earlier next year.

Mike Portnoy said somewhere (I think it may have been a chat over at the Gigantour site) that he was asked to be a part of OSI 2 but respectfully declined. I wonder who they'll get to replace him?

I read somewhere that both Jim Matheos and Kevin Moore were working on the album with hopes of releasing it by the end of the year.  No idea who else is working on it though.

From the Gigantour chat:

DreamTheater <Q>is there a chance of an OSI 2 happening in the future?
Portnoy <A>I believe Jim and Kevin are working on OSI2, but I have passed on participating

So Mike's definitely out. I think Virgil Donati would be a cool replacement, too.
