For any and all of you Adrian Belew fans out there, go to this link to sign a petition to induct him into the Rcok N' Roll Hall of Fame. All of the details are explained there:

as much as I admire Belew, I agree I'd rather see Fripp there instead. Is there perhaps a way just King Crimson in general could be inducted, with all the musicians that ever passed through their ranks?

That'd be like inducting the entire population of Rhode Island.

i know, but i think they deserve it. i don't think it'd be right to induct some but not all. plus, there's only 18 of them. plus, if madonna is going to be in there then king crimson should be as well.
i think the only prog artists in are pink floyd and frank zappa.

Are you sure? The Rock 'n Roll hall of fame is a commercial circus - no serious artist deserves to be in there... If it weren't, I'd be all for it to include King Crimson or at least Fripp, before Belew. Smile

To each their own, but it's fun to read in biographies and web logs how happy a band like e.g. Rush is to not be included there. A quick search in the forums on the topic (deadline last 18 months) should bring up some more fun material to read on this. Wink

Angelo,  I understand what you are saying, however I was not thinking properly and thinking in some crazy utopian state where the hall of fame is made up of people who have actually accomplished things, done something new, not just been clones of everything popular at the time.
sorry for my insanity, and if i were in a band like Rush I wouldn't want to be part of something that is the way that is now. I wonder how Zappa feels about being in there especially since it was after his death that they inducted him.

also, i'm reminded of another story concerning stupid organizations that have an unfounded hatred of prog, as well as decent music in general.
so i found a copy of rolling stone's history of rock and roll lying around my house and naturally i opened up to the section about "art rock", where they proceeded to bash the genre for several pages while just rambling about how rock can't possibly be intellectual. they also called bands like yes and elp "hollow and empty", because naturally that sort of music has nothing to it, not like the profound aspects of the bee gees.

This would be nice having some other prog artists/bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but that will not happen in my lifetime.  Being included in this Hall of Fame solely deals on sales of records, and not being famous in a specific sub-genre of Rock limited to the few people that listen to that particular artist/group.  I agree with Zappa's feelings on this subject.  Rewarding people and making a big celebration for doing what they get paid to do is just plain dumb.  Approve

^What's the need? They are all already included in the ProgArchives Hall of Fame Wink

@Sean: it's true - the Hall of Fame used to mean something, just like having a star with yuor name in the Broadway pavement and so on. Somehow all of that's been commercialised, sad but true. Poor Frank Z....

It really is sad, and I actually think the same thing is happening with the sports hall of fames, with it being too easy to get in, thus really losing status as a hall of FAME.

But yeah, I would probably rather have my band in prog archives than in the rock and roll of fame, as being in prog archives means i'm with musicians that i like. poor Zappa, surrounded by Madonna and the likes.

Anyone up for starting a petition to get the population of Rhode Island included in the R'n'R Hall of Fame?

How about just starting a new hall of fame for King Crimson? I can't imagine Robert Fripp wanting to be in the current one. First of all, there would be a ceremony which he would have to attend and he'd have to talk to people and I just don't see that working out.
So, a hall of fame for King Crimson I think is the best idea.
