Topic: Dark Suns - tell me more Posted: February 10 2008 at 18:20 |
I just heard a sample from the new Dark Suns album (the track was entitled "Flies in Amber", almost ten minutes long) and it must be the best song I've heard this year. I've never heard of the band, so why not? Who are they, and is anyone else excited about the upcoming release as I suddenly am?

I didn't start getting into Dark Suns until 2005's Existence album, and they really impressed me.They started out playing doomy,Opeth-ish death metal but have really progressed since then.
Their new album Grave Human Genuine is one of the best releases of 2008 so far.

Got to say that, even as a classic prog man, my interest has been piqued. Another question on the same topic: how prominent are those growling vocals on Flies in Amber on the album as a whole? Not my thing, and with my relatively tiny collection, spending will probably be directed elsewhere for the moment if I'm going to find the vocals irritating.

Dark Suns vocals are a mixture of growls and "clean" vocals.

The album Existence hooked me to them. Just the right blend of doom, metal and prog. Awesome musicality and great melodies in that album. Definitely worth checking out.
@ Jody, I thought they completely got rid of the growling vocals on Existence? Or are my ears playing tricks on me.
