Is it possible to develop a system that, when adding an album, would warn us that a similar album has been added before? That way we could avoid situations such as this one:
http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=8136 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=6713 It could check if an album with a particular name wasn't added before and then issue a warning. Edited by Tuzvihar - February 17 2008 at 17:06 |

That's possibly purposeful though, as is the case with the Jeff Beck & Jan Hammer Group Live album.
EDIT: And if anything, you could argue that having more than one entry will help members expand their knowledge of artists. For example, if David Sylvian, being much less popular than Robert Fripp, had the only entry for that album you linked to, then many Fripp fans might never discover the guy while browsing through Fripp's discography. Alternately, there may (somehow) be a Sylvian fan that would have never been led to Fripp if that catalog situation was reversed. Now I can't say if that was the original intent of those double-entries, but I don't think you can doubt the benefit. Edited by ClassicRocker - February 17 2008 at 19:30 |

There has been discussion elsewhere on trying to link one album to two artists where these kind of collaborations exist.
Having the entry in twice does potentially expose the album to different audiences from different points of origin however, the biggest issue with two enties is around reviews and ratings. The two albums listed separately can have vastly different ratings because (thinking "extreme case" here) all the five star ratings could be against one entry, and all the one star entries against the other, distorting the overall picture for this work within PA. The other thing is that a reviewer has to post a review under each artist to completely cover the album ... and the reviewer may not be aware of the double entry ... and I don't believe it is appropriate to post two reviews for the same album.
I am sure the Admins will come up with the right solution in the end, possibly by assigning artists to albums (rather than albums to artists) within the database.
