Complete no contest for me - GG!

One of the best 70s prog bands versus one of the worst.

But I bet the VDGG fanboys swing it for them.

It's GG for me too. I enjoy Godbluff and Still Life, but Octopus, Glass House, Free Hand and Three Friends. No contest.

Look at the results of the GG vs Rush poll - the GG fanboys (including myself) are out in force. GG is the clear favourite IMO.

I ve started getting into Gentle Giant and their music is one of a kind. However I like Hammill's darker approach.

Both bands are more than superb, so they're here for a reason. GG do well with the really complex arrangements, is one of my introductory bands of the genre, and I enjoy their music like the firsts days. I can't stop being impressed by the musical creativity of these guys. But VDGG is possibly my all time favorite band, so here is it.
This is not my beautiful house...

well, I went with VDGG, no surprises there.

I've now got 4 GG albums, and I think all of them are solid, interesting four star efforts. On the other hand, I love basically every VDGG record from H To He through to The Quiet Zone, and they hold 4 of my top 10 albums... so, not hard for me.

Anyway, nice to see a final like this.

Neither band even existed fo me until a few years ago.  I find Gentle Giant to sound dated, but they are OK.  VDGG have yet to click with me after 5 albums from them, but there is always that elusive next album that will do the trick.  Since that hasn't happened yet, my vote goes for Rush; err, I mean Gentle Giant.

This is not as difficult as it seems for me. Gentle Giant are one of the most original and fascinating bands of progressive rock, but Van der Graaf Generator is to me just so incredibly atmospheric. If I decided with my judgement based on the capability of musicians I would have to vote Gentle Giant (that does not men that Hammill and co are bad, Gentle Giant are just exceptional!), Van der Graaf Generator on the other hand has the atmosphere. Does not sound like a good reason, however, in the end the sound matters.
