They are back...but with only two members.

"The Original Spirogyra was founded in Lancashire Bolton 1968 by Martin Cockerham and Mark Francis. Later Martin went to University in Canterbury and expanded the band to the line up, including Barbara Gaskin. The band went on to record 5 albums and are very highly rated in the progressive pop / psychedelic folk genre. The original founders Martin and Mark have reunited in London and recorded this new album Children's Earth as a 40 year anniversary release. The new album - Children's Earth was completed on October 3rd, 2008 in London. It represents salvation for lovers of 60's - 70's progressive folk-pop-rock music! Spirogyra - the English psychedelic folk band are becoming increasingly famous over the years! This is on account of the ahead of its time unique and enduring quality of their music which continues to spread around the globe and amaze all who have not yet heard it.

The Original Spirogyra
Founded by Martin & Mark, 1968 in Bolton, Lancashire, Mark Francis: Vocals, Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Piano, Keyboards, Sax. Martin Cockerham: Vocals, 6 & 12 String Acoustic Guitars. Produced by: Martin Cockerham & Mark Francis Recorded in our home studios 2004-7. Mixed by Marco Martini & Martin Cockerham. Additional Orchestration by Ameet Swamy. Completed 2008 - Spirogyra's 40th Anniversary"

Is this a different album to the one announced here http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=52528 which also seems to be a 40th anniversary album?

It must be the same, 'cos the two share a few things: 40th anniversary, available at soundsorange, no Gaskin there...just the title has changed. So, sorry for doubleing the thread!

That's great news. Still I can't immagine what would they sound like without the beautiful voice of Barbara Gaskin.

Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin have a new CD out - possibly March 2009 - and are playing a couple of gigs in Japan soon.
