Quebecois band Miriodor have been around for a long time and will release in May a new album called Avanti!

Miriodor was formed in 1980 (in Quebec City) by the meeting of François Émond and Pascal Globensky. Different others musicians came and went until a steady sextet formation was obtained in 1983. This formation was comprised of François Émond (violin, flute, keyboards, clarinet), Pascal Globensky (keyboards, acoustic guitar), Rémi Leclerc (percussions), Sabin Hudon (saxophones), Denis Robitaille (electric guitar and bass, singing) and Marc Petitclerc (keyboards). This is the formation of the 1st album «Rencontres». This record, self-produced and now deleted, has been since released in CD format by Cuneiform Records, Miriodor’s record company since 1988. Fall 1984, François, Pascal, Rémi and Sabin moved to Montreal, establishing themselves as a quartet. This formation did some recordings that now appear as extra material on the reissue of our 2nd album « Miriodor » (Cuneiform Records).
Also, one of these pieces, Middle Ages, appeared in the audio magazine ReR Quarterly, published by Recommended Records, company led by Chris Cutler. Early 1987, François left the band as a trio format. Sabin, Pascal and Rémi then experimented with the new computer technologies, notably the MIDI system, allowing the trio to have an orchestral sound. This trio recorded « Miriodor » early 1988. We played the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville in fall 1988 and toured France and Belgium in March 1989, with the help of l’Agence Québec/Wallonie-Bruxelles pour la jeunesse. In 1991, release of « Third Warning » (Cuneiform Records) with the band still as a trio. The band participated at the Festival des musiques de création du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and also at the International Computer Music Congress. End of 1993, a fourth member comes in : Bernard Falaise (electric guitar and bass). Recording of a piece, « Promenade sous zéro », as a quartet for the Cuneiform Records compilation « Unsettled Scores ». The piece is a sort of medley of pieces from Belgian bands, Univers Zéro and Présent. By 1994, Miriodor is a trio again: Rémi, Pascal and Bernard. 1996, release of « Elastic Juggling » (Cuneiform Records) by the trio with a myriad of guest musicians. The band played at the ProgScape ‘96 in Baltimore (USA) on June 29th, played at the Montreal Jazz Festival on July 5th, played at La Maison du Québec in St-Malo (France) the last week of August ‘96. 1998, the band is now a quintet, with the addition of Nicolas Masino (bass, keyboards) and Marie-Chantal Leclair (saxophones). Miriodor is then composing a new repertoire. 1999 : Miriodor composed and recorded a music score for « Almanach », a documentary movie about the passage into the next millenium. This movie is directed by Denys Desjardins and is produced by the National Film Board of Canada. In October 2000, Miriodor played at the Hot House in Chicago and at the Edgefest, an avant-garde jazz festival in Ann Arbor. Then, some more compositions and recordings ensued and the fifth album of the band, Mekano, is released in September 2001. Now including the violinist Marie-Soleil Bélanger, the band became a sextet. Following the release of Mekano, Miriodor is invited at the prestigious NEARfest festival, in Trenton (JN) in 2002. The response is so good that the band is invited again the following year for the pre-festival show. In fall 2004, Miriodor played again the Edgefest and completed the production of Parade, which will be released in May 2005. The astounding Swedish musician Lars Hollmer collaborated on a few pieces for this record. In April 2005, Miriodor will be headlining Day 1 at the Gouveia Art Rock Festival in Portugal and will participate to the next edition of the Guelph Jazz Festival, in September. For these concerts, violin player Chantal Bergeron will replace Marie-Soleil Bélanger.

3rd Warning was my first Miriodor album, and so it's always been special to me.  All excellent.

I did pickup Parade on a whim with the bonus live CD and I found it to be an enjoyable listen.  I haven't heard any of the others from them however.

So far I'd say Jongleries Elastiques is my favourite.
Their music presents a good balance between humor and seriousness, tension and appease.

I was planning to vote for that one myself (was going to write that) despite 3rd Warning having particular sentimental value as it was one of the first albums I got when I decided to modernise my tastes just about five or six years ago (before that I was mostly stuck in the 60's and '70's when it came to thine kind of music we have in these archives).  Certainly 3rd Warning was one of my first good experiences with modern prog.  So I'll give JE a vote too. It's a very good one.  Mekano is another favourite.  Nice track above.
