Topic: Donald Fagen Posted: May 01 2009 at 06:21 |
I just heard The Nightfly one the radio over here and I wonder why Donald is not on PA. Steely Dan is and it would just be consistent to add Donald Fagen solo as well. The Nightfly is more or less a masterpiece of jazz rock and also his second Kamakiriad is great. Just have to find his latest (Morph the Cat) somewhere. I heard a few songs from that one and also they sounded awesome.
Anyone who seconds this idea ? The subgenre would have to be Crossover or Jazz Rock/fusion I guess.

Nightfly - 80% there
Kamakiriad - 100% there and overall great concept piece
Morph The Cat - Too good to omit - 90% there
I would agree in favour and follow the same genre as SD as they are amlost identical to SD studio material

I love Fagen's solo stuff as well, and I would also agree with inclusion in the same genre as Steely Dan.

Let's wait for Micky to appear, I'm sure he has something worthy to say about this topic...

I'm listening to Kamakiriad now. As I suspected I here a lot of jazz-influenced songs but nothing that I would call "Prog Rock". Mind you I pretty much feel the same way about Steely Dan.

I was secretly hoping Mickey was coming by to have his say . Can't you inform him about this topic (can't do that myself, can I ?). I would be very surprised if he didn't like Fagen solo !
Are you a fan of his inclusion, Pablo ?

I agree that if SD are here, Fagan deserves to be as well.
Same music, same structure basically.
To be honest, I don't really think they belong here, but I'm happy they are because I like their music so much.

Exactly the same thing with me. The music is simply magical and enchanting.

You could inform him! However, no, I'm not aware of his solo stuff nor with Steely Dan, though very anxious to check some of his stuff, specially Morph the Cat which Micky posted a YouTube video of it which is really good, so yeah, he likes Fagen's solo stuff.

I love The Nightfly and Kamakiriad, but I don't consider it prog, not even prog related.

Again: I agree in a way but that's why I said in my first post: if we are consistent !
If SD is on this site, so should Fagen solo be, because it's 80-90% the same style and sound.

Well, that's absolutely true!
I didn't know SD was on the site.
