This happens everytime I find a new prog band I like. I'm sure others do the same.

These are some of the prog metal/heavy prog bands I like:
  • Mastodon
  • The Mars Volta
  • Rush
  • King Crimson
  • Porcupine Tree
  • Riverside
  • Pain of Salvation
  • Dream Theater (from Scenes from a Memory to Train of Thought)
  • Ayreon
I have tried Symphony X, Nightwish and Shadow Gallery and I am not a fan.
I think what I like is the blend of complexity and mood with groove.
Suggestions?

If you want to try some bands similar to Mastodon I highly recommend the bands Baroness and Bison B.C.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get them in Australia.
