I'm a huge nerd, so naturally two of my favorite things are prog rock and video games.  I love a lot of video game music, but I'm trying to think of any progressive rock or progressive metal covers of video game music and the only one's that come to mind are The Black Mages and The Minibosses.  Can anybody recommend some good progressive influenced video game covers or atleast some rocking versions of video game classics?  Thanks!

(There's gotta be a rock/prog version of the Zelda soundtrack somewhere.)

There's a neo-classical version of the Zelda main theme, I think by Yngwie Malmsteen... don't think there's a prog version though, but that would be awesome.

Although, the music for Zelda does sound a little bit mellow prog already, I think Camel secretly did the music for it. :P

check out:
- Motoi sakuraba (prog rock influenced VGM as well as some all-out progressive solo albums)
- the advantage (they've got two albums I think. They do early nintendo covers in a math-rock style)

Ok, do you mean Genesis the prog band, done in the style of 8-bit video game music, or do you mean Sega Genesis songs remixed?

So it goes.

Camel isn't talented enough to write the awesome music featured in Zelda. Tongue

I made a CD of Megaman music played by real instruments by various artists, because Megaman music is very "prog-like."

You will find this website to be of immense value:

Ya know what Game music I absolutely loved was Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. That soundtrack is to die for.
Also, theres this old Genesis game called "Biohazard Battle", also had some very nice scores for the time. I would love to see someone do something with them, using instruments.
