This is a poll based on my last.fm top 15. Which is your favourite and why?

In order to keep a thriving conversation you are aloud to criticise me on my taste and everyone who says something you disagree with....or even a complement.

Also add me up if so wish on last.fm,I tend to use that site the most. http://www.last.fm/user/Cozfunkel

Frank Zappa.  His music consistently amazes me, more often than not challenges me to really understand what all is happening.  While I may not have enjoyed each individual track, I can still appreciate the things he did.  Plus, there's some Frank for nearly any taste...whether it be classical, doo wop, fusion, completely avant-garde, etc.  He's miles ahead of the other artists for me, though several of the others, including King Crimson, Soft Machine, Beefheart, all appeal as well.  Fun poll, it'll be interesting to see other people's reasoning for picking their favorites.

King Crimson has for a long time now become my favorite. Their music is so rich in every time period and has developed greatly. Each time I get back to their albums I find something new. Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd are also artists I hold dear, but for different reasons.

King Crimson, I don't use their name as my screen name for like every site evar for no reason. :P No other band developed as much as they did and so successfully each time, they were influential and more importantly great right from the start.

It is working.

For a start "aloud" is a proper word meaning noisy or speaking I guess (glad I don't have to write a dictionary) so spellchecker wouldn't know.
And "complement" is also a word.......

Some good ones, some which I don't know, some which I don't care about.  I'm showing Eno some lovin'.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Almost went with John Zorn or King Crimson, but decided on The Mars Volta.

All the bands have great musicianship obviously so that isn't a problem, but I really love the Mars Volta's use of different timbres in expressing a punk/latin/prog sort of structure. Also I'm a huge fan of Cedric's singing, both his actual style and when he's singing his best such as in FtM or Octahedron I think his voice is almost soulful and just top notch. They also do a great job of sounding incredibly overly bombastic and superfluous, things i hate, but making them work in some strange way.

Frank.

I could go on and on about why, but it would really all boil down to...

Frank.

The Mars Volta
I have been following this band since the early days of de loused, and they all seem to reinvent themselves with each album released. Not to mention they one the lead prog bands of todays music scene. Not for just prog but for rock in general. I think 10 to 20 years from now we will be talking about The Mars Volta just like we talk about the classic bands like King Crimson, Pink Floyd and etc.
