After those "ultimate" lists, the idea was thrown around that we do a PA definitive top 100 by decade over the next few months, leading to the end of the one we're in. And it's a go! We will be doing one list a month for the next five months. It'll be fun. Plus, it's guarenteed to render more interesting results than those other polls. Let's try to make it work.

So this is what we're looking at:

September: Top 100 of the 60s
October: Top 100 of the 70s
November: Top 100 of the 80s
December: Top 100 of the 90s
January: Top 100 of the 00s

-Lists will be accepted until the 1st day of the following month, and results will be revealed [more than likely] at some point in that month, though we're under no obligation to post results until the beginning of next year.

-Lists may include any officially released title (full-length, live, EP) from any genre

-Data will be compiled predominantly by moreitsythanyou and myself, unless we get some volunteers to help out along the way, using an as yet undetermined rating system.

-Lists can range from 40-150 selections

-Rules are subject to change at any point along the way.

So with that, the Top 100 of the 60s list is now underway. Get working on those lists!

I think I'll have to skip this one Cry I haven't heard 100 albums from that decade and if I did a smaller list it would be just filled with Beatles and stuff.

I don't think I have enough albums from most of the eras, most especially the 80s.  Oh, and does this (-Lists may include any officially released title (full-length, live, EP) from any genre) mean any prog genre or ANY genre, including jazz, etc.?

Problem 1: I'm in the same boat on a few of these lists. I think people can throw together a group of at least 40 albums they like. If not, there's no obligation to do all of the lists, just go with those which you feel comfortable doing. Nothing wrong with a bunch of Beatles on a 60's list. Mine and I'm sure many other people will do that as well considering their popularity. Also think of it as an opportunity to get to know an era you don't know as well just a bit better, especially with the results.

Problem 2: All genres, not just prog. We can't all just listen to one genre all the time, right?

...or can we?

Nah, gotta be others too, though I confess that I listen to something like 80% prog.

^Valid point.

I'm going to have trouble putting together a whole lot for this decade myself, Like itsy said, not only will this be a good opportunity to learn more about the decade, but surely you can think of 40 albums for your list.

I just counted that I've got exactly 50 albums from the 60s so perhaps I'll just put them in order Smile Or then I'll make a top 40 since there are some probably great ones that I haven't listened to very much yet. Like Blonde on Blonde and others.

I don't own enough 60's albums to do 100 that I love. To be honest it would be dominated by The Beatles, early Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and The Doors. I'd have an Iron Butterfly, Yes' debut, and a few others, but it wouldn't be a meaningful list. I'll do a top 20 or 25, but past that won't be meaningful at all.

Well it needs 40 to count. I'm sure you can pad it out.

Great start so far.

^I hear you. This is definitely going to be the hardest decade to get together a huge list for (at least for out users). Try your best to get 40 in there.

I had actually only heard bits of it until recently. Aaron actually gave me a recommendation to listen to this a few days ago and it's already my #1. Maybe it's a bit premature, but the sound and soul of that album really grabbed me. You know, sometimes you hear an album and you fall in love with it immediately. I don't see myself listening to anything else on that list as much as it in the near future, so it seems pretty fair overall.
