England biography
England is a band formed by the band's guitarist, Olly ALCOCK in 1971, accompanied by bandmates Mike KIDSON, soon to be Genesis' road manager on drums, and John WAITE, who had a hit single called "Missing You" in 1984 on bass. The band played festivals and gigs for every record company there was, but had no success. In 1973, KIDSON left England to become Genesis' road manager and WAITE left to form his own band, leaving Alcock band-less. Around 1974, ALCOCK had got his band up and running, with Ben EGGLESTON on bass and John CLARK on drums, and Paul ROSSITER on saxophone. THe band had played many gigs, but has yet to have been signed, resulting in drummer John CLARK's resignation. It is now 1976, and the band has found a record deal, with Phil COOK on drums and Paul ROSSITER as a mere guest saxophone player. Their debut album, "England", was released in 1976, but has not recieved much publicity and success.
In 1978, with punk taking over, the band has broken up and was never to be heard from again. Now, ALCOCK has his own band called The Olly Alcock Band, but the details of COOK and EGGLESTON remain hidden. The band's records are now sold for prices as high as 400 GBP, and still remain a buried treasure on the market.
The band is heavily influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Wishbone Ash, and their main style is blues-oriented prog, similar to the sounds of Nektar. I can't seem to find any audio or video samples so later this week I'll record samples through my gramophone.

And yet, they are classified prog on many places too, so yeah. I've just recorded Paradise Lost through my turntable, but I'm gonna have to wait a while till I can upload it.

Does anybody know how to record songs through my turntable and have them in good quality? I don't want to waste money on one of those vinyl to MP3 turntables, and that won't really help me either.

wait a sec -- the symph band England is here on PA
http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=616 and according to Proggnosis - who could be mistaken - same band here including the s/t debut you cite; http://www.proggnosis.com/PGArtist.asp?AID=43 seems to be some confusion and there appears to be a hard rock band with the same name from the period with the players you mention, if you can clear this up and give me some mp3s of your England [for evaluation purposes only], HeavyProg will have a listen Edited by Atavachron - September 08 2009 at 04:05 |

I am speaking of the "hard prog" band, and proggnosis is mistaken. And as I have already mentioned before, they are called prog in many places.

If I may give an advice, download Audacity to make your "rips". You can record it in the 320 kbits mp3 format. |
