Looking for some good standardish prog rock bands like Pink Floyd (Darkside of the moon, wish you were here era) and Tool. I know Karnivool and Rishloo, but I don't really know any other good prog rock bands.

Can someone reccomend me some, thanks!

Some weirder suggestions welcome. I listen to a lot of technical death, prog death (opeth, death, etc), so I have a pretty large musical taste.

I'd love to reccomend The Pax Cecilia to you.
They're a post metal band, similar to Tool, although piano based.

You can download their latest album for free on their site, http://www.paxcecilia.com/download.html

Its got a really high rating here on PA, and rightly so.

Hope that helps!

Dredg is VERY similar to Rishloo, one of the bands you mentioned already knowing about. So if you haven't checked them out, I suggest you do.

Porcupine Tree is also somewhere between the Pink Floyd and Tool spectrum, though their later stuff is quite heavy, so to get the more mellow stuff, you'll have to start earlier in their catalogue.

Hmm . . . Ever heard of Counterfsit? Indukti? Isis? All of them are considered 'Post-Metal', but I find that people who like Tool tend to love all three of those bands. A little heavier than Tool, but not by much. You said you liked the heavier stuff as well, so you may already know these guys, but oh well.

Deterior is a solo artist who you can find here on the archives with a very Tool-ish vibe to his stuff. All of his music is free, so if you end up not liking it, you won't feel like you wasted any money. :p

Hope those suggestions helped a bit. Thumbs Up

You might also want to check out the band Tool bassist Justin Chancellor was in before he joined Tool called Peach.Their album "Giving Birth To A Stone" is excellent. After Justin left the remaining members of Peach formed a new band called Suns of the Tundra and they are SUPERB.

Also check out Comaah.I can't speak highly enough of their album "The Beautiful Empty".
