I just re-re-listened to Norwegian band LEPROUS' "Tall Poppy Syndrome" album and reviewed it. I feel the need to promote this band whose record has (shamefully) only three ratings! (though the average is 4.73 so not everything is bad LOL). The music, progressive-metal of the more traditional kind, is amazing, a mix of POS with OPETH with (yes, they're unavoidable) DT and with lots of theatrical elements in their music. By far the best album of 2009 in all genres, but unknown here to everybody but me and a couple guys...

Please, if you have an ear for metal, try LEPROUS.

One of my favourites of last year. Great album. I recommended it before here in the forums as well, not much responses then.
Anyway, I second this recommendation.

Embarrassed Itīs one of the albums at the bottom of the pile that I didnīt have time to hear last year. Maybe I should make it a priority. Read your review T and the album sounds interesting.

AWESOME Album!
We at prOgulus.com love them Smile!  Well if you notice, the more heavier stuff gets scrutinized here Cry

Leprous also backs up Ihsahn live, cool Tech/Death Metal!

Yes, they do sound like Opeth, but Opeth sounded like My Dying Bride and Autumn Leaves back
in the day LOL

You may like "Enochian Theory" as well!

"Shapes and forms, against the norms..."

I also love this album! It's been on high rotation for a couple of weeks now.

The vocals are very good, with some great variety, from the occasional death growl to mellow singing. They also have some funk and jazz influences to shake things up a bit, as well as spoken word passages.

This would be up with my best of 2009, can't wait to see what they come up with next!

It's ok, I'm not a prog metal head anyways... it's an enjoyable listen

it reminded me a lot of Sonata Arctica btw
But now my branches suffer
And my leaves don't bear the glow
They did so long ago
